Sometimes when I press the volume keys on my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad 13s AMD G3) they just hold until I press another key. My volume keys work just fine on my Windows 10 partition, so this must be a linux, manjaro or kde issue.
I’ve looked at some solutions online but they seem to be laptop-specific and I haven’t found any solutions that work for me yet.

I have the same issue on my intel thinkbook. I thought it was likely a Lenovo/HW issue, but as you’ve tested on win10, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Hey, i have the same problem, inxi dump is down below.
also xev -event keyboard will change its output if the repeated key is interupted by a volume key.
The last 4 means a volume down key the 8 is for volume up and the 12 apears right after a key was sticky and then interupted. Also untill the the other volume key is pressed the 12 will still apear and only change back to the original value if the other key was pressed.
xev -event keyboard:

Hy again as a quick workaround one can assign a different button for volume up / down. For example one could use Numpad +(,-). On my NB i can Disable the hotkey function and then i can use the FN keys which seem to have no sticky problem.Thus I simply assigned f3 to volume up and f2 to volume down. In KDE this overwrites two things i didn’t use yet.

Im pretty sure that the problem atleast in my case is a driver thats not working properly…
Another workaround i think is nicer than using a different key is to use a udev rule.
Make a file 70-keyboard-fix.hwdb and place it in /lib/udev/hwdb.d/70-keyboard.hwdb
Content of file:
evdev:atkbd:dmi:*
KEYBOARD_KEY_ae=!volumedown
KEYBOARD_KEY_b0=!volumeup
The Keyboard keys should be the same in most cases. If not u need to check what the key code u get when u press the volume button. To do that simply use “evtest” which one might need to run with sudo.
If you are doing that you should get some output like this when pressing the volume key.
Event: time 1669304321.742435, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value b0
Event: time 1669304321.742435, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 115 (KEY_VOLUMEUP), value 1
Event: time 1669304321.742435, -------------- SYN_REPORT ------------
Event: time 1669304321.742448, type 4 (EV_MSC), code 4 (MSC_SCAN), value b0
Event: time 1669304321.742448, type 1 (EV_KEY), code 115 (KEY_VOLUMEUP), value 0
the value for EV_MSC is the code after KEYBOARD_KEY.
Also evdev:atkbd:dmi:* is applying the fix for ALL keyboards. Since this might be bad in some cases (eg. if the keykode is not for vol changing) this might introduce some unwanted behavior.
Best wishes
