Steam games crashing/freezing on start up

This format has not gone smoothly at all. Im unsure how to get past this error.

did you try to remove the nvidia driver, and install the hybrid profile again?

sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-450xx-prime
sudo: mhwd: command not found

Use Manjaro Settings Manager, the graphical interface, and remove nvidia drivers, then install the nvidia hybrid drivers from here. At some point if the native commands don’t even work, I’m not magician.

I did that, restarted, no drivers and
mhwd -l
bash: mhwd: command not found
Manjaro setting manager hardware configuration is empty.

Im not sure how to fix that to install

What did you do from when you typed the command mhwd successfully and now?

You removed something manually?

I only removed the non 450 drivers. and used sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-450xx-prime

Be specific please.

Exactly, what did you do.

I went to the package manager and removed only the nvidia-390xx-utils drivers, all(430, etc) but the one for 450

:man_facepalming:

Wrong.

Go to the package manager, and reinstall MHWD you just broke it by uninstalling its required system packages.

From beginning I told you to use the graphical interface (Manjaro Setting Manager apparently on XFCE) for Kernal and Video drivers, if you had read and followed to the letter you would be fine since long time. I followed along as you wanted to use terminal but let go the easy way if you’re not confident.

So reinstall mhwd and maybe mhwd-db to repair MHWD, then use the graphical interface to remove, and install the hybrid drivers. // EDIT: not the package manager, but the tool specifically made to manage video drivers, Manjaro Settings Manager → Hardware.

Ok they are back. How do I do this remove/install to force nvidia prime?

My manjaro settings manager shows video-nvidia-450xx is installed. There is no option there to install hybrid drivers. only to uninstall/reinstall

is there something I can do in terminal or should I just reformat again?

I really wish they would allow pics/screens.

Honestly I don’t know what you did (for sure you not doing as said as here again I see you install the RT (Real Time) kernel when I told you to install the LTS kernel), you broke some things by removing some packages. If this is a fresh install I would say stop wasting time to troubleshoot and fix the installation, download current ISO, and reinstall properly, then update, reboot, and go to the Manjaro Settings Manager and see the situation. Stop removing things you’re not 100% sure you should remove also. And important, read carefully what people tell you because not only mine, but sawdoctor message you replied by ignoring half of his message.

I have never used lutris before. This rig was working before the format on steam. I tried my best to read what I was told, but then had to search most of how to do what I was told to do it. I am a noob Im sorry. I’ll just reformat with the latest manjaro download and if I can’t get it back to where it was I’ll just give up and go back to windows so I don’t waste anyones time.

Thank you for your time.

If the thread is still open reply back when you have a fresh system reinstalled. No problem you learn from the mistakes you make, it is just frustrating when you’re telling ‘do this’ and people ‘do that’ and then you have issue piling up because user also does things on his own without telling.

I guess I didn’t fully understand the “do that” as I had to google it

take care

:+1:

see you later on the forum

EDIT: when you have fresh install just come back it should be as easy as a few clicks to get you going.
