[Stable Update] 2026-02-01 - Kernels, COSMIC, Plasma, GNOME, Mesa

Prior to this update my system would suspend fine, but now suspend results in systemd-sleep[51430]: Failed to freeze unit 'user.slice': Connection timed out error and the system failing to suspend. There was no such error prior to this update, but I’m at a loss as to which update would affect this since systemd itself wasn’t upgraded. Any ideas?

7 posts were split to a new topic: Cpupower configuration file was deleted after 2026.02..01 stable update

Today, I booted and logged in to my GNOME desktop, only to find a strange window on my taskbar. I can’t “open” it, quitting doesn’t appear to do anything, and I don’t see any unusual processes running.

The only new thing I did, a day before, was updating gnome-shell-extension-gtk4-desktop-icons-ng (1:100.14-1 → 1:100.15-1).

Any idea what this is?

2 posts were split to a new topic: Lost my package repositories after 2026.02.01 Stable Update

After the stable update on February 1, 2026, my laptop no longer boots to the system. The boot process hangs at: “Reached target Graphical Interface”. I could only log into my system with the Cinnamon desktop via the tty.

The problem was caused by Optimus Manager and Nvidia Prime.

Solution: After removing the files “/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/20-optimus-manager.conf” and “/sbin/prime-offload /sbin/prime-switch”, Lightdm started normally again and the system booted normally.

maybe still keep manjaro-kde-settings for something else?

It’s listing manjaro-kde-settings as a package to remove because you used the -c (cascade) option. But if you want to keep it, then best would be to mark that package as explicitly installed. :backhand_index_pointing_down:

sudo pacman -D --asexplicit manjaro-kde-settings

not only, but also because ‘manjaro-kde-settings’ has hard dependency ‘sddm-breath-theme’.

Mark them both as explicitly installed.

I’ve made sddm-breath-theme an optional dependency with manjaro-kde-settings 20260210-2.

I get the same error if I try removing the 5.4 kernel with Manjaro settings. What should I do?

Remove the linux-lts-headerspackage first before trying to remove linux54.

Thanks a lot. That’s what I usually do in these cases but being a kernel packaged I was afraid to break something big.
Anyway, I can’t update because of (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)) errors. I have tried everything that is listed here but it didn’t work. Can you please link me the right procedure I should follow?

The kernel headers are only plain text files with C code functions, so that the compiler would be able to include the correct system calls in kernel modules that need to be compiled from sources against the installed kernel.

Concretely, in the event of Nvidia drivers, the part that gets compiled is the interface between the proprietary driver blob and the kernel, so that the module can be loaded into the kernel.

This is a problem that has been popping up all over the forum in the last couple of days, which definitely warrants investigation.

This is what happens:

Hmm… I am seeing several mirrors that aren’t up-to-date for the Stable branch. That shouldn’t be happening anymore this long after a Stable Update. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Pretty much only the global mirrors and easyname are fully uptodate.

All but one of the USA-based mirrors are up-to-date as well.

I’ve just downgraded archlinux-keyring to 20260107-2.0 which should fix the issues. Once your mirror(s) is synced, install it with either:

sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring && sudo pacman -Su

or

sudo pacman -Syuu
