Having the same issue on a amd laptop, different param on different kernels. Latest lts breaks display also

, but that one is the only one not flooding log

WARNING: CPU: 4 PID: 1247 at include/linux/dma-fence.h:475 amdgpu_sync_keep_later+0x76/0xc0

RIP: 0010:amdgpu_sync_keep_later+0x76/0xc0 [amdgpu]

edit: apparently the display issue was a backlight append in the grub, that wasn’t necessary anymore.
and the param 0014 in 6.1 is apparently not that big of a deal? supposedly being pushed into debug

Short: Steam crashes after launch

After that last update, if you have enabled “Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders” in Steam (found in Settings → Downloads → Shader pre-caching), couple of seconds after Steam starts, the system freezes for a short duration of around a second and the steam client is killed.

As of now the solution is to disable this setting (disabled by default anyways)

Details

In the journal log I see

Process 7379 (steamwebhelper) of user 1000 dumped core.

In the kernel log I see an oom-kill log

I hope so. I dont saw any problems yet, besides the error message in Journal.

Did you try installing lib32-libnm?

Yes, it’s already installed (v1.42.6-1)

I am having issues with my amd-ryzen gpu using kernel 5.15.128-1 on my system:

Problem is that xfce-desktop is really slow, whisker-menu opens 2-3 seconds after pressing the according shortcut.
Also resizing windows and effects are much slower than it was before the update.

Unfortunately I haven’t got any more time to investigate the problem, besides checking the logs:
sudo journalctl -b 0 -p 3

Workaround for now was using kernel 6.4.12-1-MANJARO

Are any of you experiencing the same or related problems after upgrading?

A post was split to a new topic: Missing GNOME Control Center menu

I have a lot of problems with kernel 5.15.128 with:

I have a lot of oops flooding the journal like:

Since the newest update I can’t launch any steam games anymore.
They are all stuck on “Is running” but the actual window won’t come up.

Actually i had this problems temporary a few weeks ago and just restarting steam was fixing it.

But it was coming back again, on another day. Since this new stable update it didnt showed up again, but maybe i will see it soon again… who knows.

Somehow my journal didnt complained about this issues… but i find strange your rundll32.exe stuff in journal, whats going on there?

Rundll32 is a Microsoft Windows Service, is there a reason why are you using this for Steam Proton?

This is a ~2 week old system which I freshly set up and I’m just running the Steam (Runtime) edition with Proton 8.0.3. No idea why it is calling rundll32.exe, could be wine.
I’ve switched from Wayland back to X11, tested it there and switched again to Wayland and now it’s working again, weird…

My Thinkpad T14s with Ryzen 7 5850U and Radeon Graphics randomly freezes and capslock blinking since this update. Sometimes their a some procesees like firefox are crashing, before this happens. Already tried with live manjaro from usb-stick, same thing. Will try old version next, to be 100% sure, its about this version.

I’m really new manjaro. What should I do, do give more info for bugfix?

// Edit: no problems with the version

Desktop is KDE

Are you using the 6.1.49-1 LTS kernel? If not give it a try.

A post was split to a new topic: Diablo 4 issues

I was having problems when using Kernel 6.5. System freezes up and/or poor performance in games. I couldn’t exactly figure out why. Went back to 6.4 and everything is fine again.
Also, I use amd_pstate=active maybe that’s related.

Tailscale’s MagicDNS stopped working after this update. Something had recreated /etc/resolv.conf, turning it from a symlink back to a regular file.

$ tailscale status
[...]

# Health check:
# - dns-manager: systemd-resolved and NetworkManager are wired together incorrectly; MagicDNS will probably not work. For more info, see https://tailscale.com/s/resolved-nm
# - dns-os: setLinkDNS: Unit dbus-org.freedesktop.resolve1.service not found.
# - dns: setLinkDNS: Unit dbus-org.freedesktop.resolve1.service not found.

The instructions at https://tailscale.com/s/resolved-nm did resolve the issue until a reboot - see this comment to persist the fix.

Short: Steam crashes after launch

I have/had the same problem after the latest stable update. Steam wouldn’t be able to show its main window, but I do see the login window which auto-fills in my credentials and disappears. The background/watchdog process also runs since its icon shows up on the taskbar. I see the Steam client main window borders popping up, freezing the screen for 2 or 3 seconds (apparently the new window locks the screen buffer since it’s fullscreen) after which the window immediately gets killed. A few seconds later it retries and the same behavior happens where it freezes the screen ans kills the window again; it keeps looping like this until I right-click the taskbar process and select ‘Exit Steam’.

In the pamac Package Manager GUI I clicked the ‘Steam (native) (steam-native-runtime)’ package and there clicked ‘Launch’. This starts the application without any problems and all the games run fine; I stumbled upon this by accident. The “Allow background processing of Vulkan shaders” setting is still enabled in my case.

But I still cannot start Steam from the Start Menu or via a pinned taskbar shortcut. The only way I can start Steam, since this 2023-08-29-stable-update, is via the pamac gui, clicking 'Launch".

Anybody has an idea what’s the difference of invocation between launching from pamac GUI and launching Steam from the start menu?
