[Stable Update] 2021-03-08- Kernels, Plasma 5.21.2, Haskell, Kodi, Grub, KDE-Dev

Correction! My problem wasn’t the newer version of GRUB, it was os-prober being disabled. So, I re-enabled it and it the GRUB menus shows up even with the newer version now!

:astonished: seems you did sudo npm...

sudo pacman -Syu --overwrite "/usr/lib/node_modules/npm/*"
solved it for me.

Same problem here, I needed to activate grub OS prober to detect my windows OS.

Has Linux gone to the dark side, ignoring other OSs, like Microsoft does ?

I can’t run the bluetooth audio anymore. My speaker connects but there is no sound coming. WoW doesn’t look like it is working too. Pamac not showing updates unless I use “refresh databases” thingy. My laptop does not close, It boots again and stays there for about a minute, then shuts down. I am using REISUB everytime.

Latest updates became too broken too me. I loved how Manjaro was stable with it’s updates and even suggested my friends to use it too. Nowadays, I tell them to not do the “stable” updates before I do a little research, which is a shame.

Edit: I was able to fix some problems. First, I ran only the nvidia-container update then tried all other updates. Game problems were issue of the newest Wine update. I changed the dxvk version and it fixed that. Bluetooth audio problem is random right now. If I connect to the speaker as soon as I login, it works. Otherwise I can only get the beep sound when you use the volume slider and nothing else.

It asked me to delete manjaro-pulse and i did that before running the update. Update looks like it’s finished but now I don’t have audio over bluetooth.

Grub had a large number of security issues. Since it controls the booting of the machine, it makes sense to make os-prober off by default since other operating systems should not be explicitly trusted. A pain for sure for the dual booters, but a reasonable decision.

No, the os-prober was disabled due to security issue. Read the 2nd point in announcement.

This is an official warning. This thread is an update announcement, and it is perfectly fine to report here on how the update went for you. Politics are however not the scope of this thread and are considered taboo on this forum as a whole, exactly because it leads to heated debates that do not find resolution.

I have just deleted 10 posts from this thread ─ two of them were reported through the official channels, and the others were followups to the reported posts. Not only is that stuff not welcome here, but it’s derailing this thread. Now please leave it at that or we will be forced to silence a few people for a while.

Thank you.

I am NOT the best person to answer this, but I had the same problem and this is the extremely ungraceful way I fixed it–

  1. searched pacman for pulseaudio and removed all related installed files.
  2. ran update. (Checked, no sound)
  3. Reinstalled pulseaudio files (Checked again, good to go)
This worked fine for me, but I suspect there is a much better way. Still, hope it helps!

Anyone having trouble with Caffeine? I can’t get it to enable. I think this is a problem from the last update but I’ve been away from the PC. I get this when I run it from command line. I haven’t attempted any troubleshooting yet.

/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/caffeine/main.py:61: PyGIWarning: AppIndicator3 was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('AppIndicator3', '0.1') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded.
  from gi.repository import AppIndicator3
CRITICAL:caffeine.main:Caffeine is already running

Will update if I get around to it, but if anyone does happen to have a solution I’ll be thankful! Otherwise, cheers, and have a good day!

EDIT: Did a restart, seems to work fine. Will update if any other issues. The text is still the same when ran from command line.

you can install pulseeffects-legacy to replace pulseeffects

pulseeffects-legacy does not depend on Pipewire and does not require removal of PulseAudio packages

I’m still struggling with the last update as it breaks KDE on loading, this update seems to make my mouse not moving upon the login screen (still trying to pinpoint which lib did this, incremental updates and timeshift rollbacks are really time consuming). This is by far the worst series of OS updates in my life, wish I’d stayed on Mint.

and which desktop environment?

If you click on my avatar, you could see it, besides - I’ve mentioned Plasma, so it should be straight-forward. However, I’ve fixed it by updating the plasmoid “Event Calendar”.

Uh, got it, thanks for reply!

The update went smoothly.

The only problem I have found some shortcut keys not working.
“print”, “insert”, “fn+f12” assign to “Flame shot”, “Konsole”, “Yakuake”.

I tried mapping these keys to other applications but they are also not working when pressed.

Cinnamon, 5.4rt. all good as usual, Thank you.

just gave up and installed plasma-desktop-git from tty2, seems to be working for now.

Powerdevil is still broken. Other than that, everything is fine.

Both issues are resolved by downgrading powerdevil to 5.20.5.

Thank. The boot selection menu works again. :handshake:
