I just noticed there’s also issue with displaying certain applications icon on system tray.
e.g. Viber installed through flatpak doesn’t show the icon.

You can fix it by running this
flatpak override --user --own-name='org.kde.*' com.viber.Viber

Notes doesn’t change the icon when the icon set is changed.
I think the issue is because Xfce using the old config.
Or some problem with “status tray plugin”

It’s linux54-nvidia (you have an extra hyphen, which I also have in my post, since it is a quote).

Note you need to check if your card works well with the newer drivers. I don’t use nvidia, so I’m not the best person to guide you on that.

It’s mhwd, not mhvd. Why do you want to delete the kernel? Don’t do that.

Again, mhwd. You can first check which drivers are available for your system with mhwd -l and which ones are installed with mhwd -li. See mhwd --help for more info.

Hi, just go to “Status Tray Plugin” preferences and enable “Adjust size automatically”. It should fix the battery icon issue.

Another way to make battery icon on tray smaller on XFCE:

  • Right click on panel -> Panel -> Panel Preferences
  • Select “Items” tab and double click on “Status Tray Plugin”
  • Here you can either turn on “Adjust size automatically” or experiment with a fixed size.

Though this makes pamac icon smaller too. But I can live with that.

In the meantime, I discovered that entering TTY2 (CTRL + ALT + F2) allowed me to install the linux54-nvidia package, which installed driver version 460.32.03-3. It also applied it to other installed kernels.

I tried startx before I rebooted. It worked.

It’s odd that I didn’t experience this when the Nvidia issue occurred in the last update.

The update broke my system because of this removal of nVidia drivers. I got a black screen after reboot and lightdm would not start. Fortunately I fixed it with the philm’s instructions to install all parts of the nvidia drivers in the first message (after removing some conflicting old nvidia packages).

Since he recommends switching to nouveau, how can I test these drivers? In the Manjaro Configuration the only available drivers for my card (GTX 1050) are video-nvidia (proprietary), video-linux, video-modesetting and video-vesa.

I know this, maybe I wasn’t clear, this is what happened:

  • I get a notification: There’s ONE update available and it’s for Google Chrome
  • I Click apply
  • I get the small window notification in pamac saying it needs to remove some python stuff and install some new python stuff. I think it’s dependencies stuff, so I click OK.
  • Pamac starts downloading but instead of downloading only chrome and python as it said it downloads 1.5Gb of updates.

I welcome the updates, and I always update when I have a notification, the issue I’m reporting is that pamac failed to inform on what was about to happen, since it let me think it was updating only chrome.

I saved pamac log.

After some use I encountered a problem: Lutris wasn’t recognizing my card as compatible with Vulkan, winetrick wasn’t starting. I had to create a new .wine to have winetricks work and then I had to reinstall everything vulkan related from pamac and it started working again. I’m using AMD RX580 with amdgpu driver.

Also I had to register again on the forum to post my initial post as my account was deleted for some reason.

Yes, the forum had trouble and the data was lost, so the forum had to be restarted.

I’m glad everything’s working again. I know there was a WINE update, so that might explain you Lutris problems. (Although I tested and had none, but I only have 1 game on there that I very rarely play.)

It appeared that proper install of free driver, removing all old 340 related packages and only after that update did the trick. Now I will make backup and compile 340.

Yes the teamviewer tray item crashing the tray in XFCE 4.16 is known:

A fix has already been provided. It should appear in the next release of xfce4-panel. The tray will not crash, but the teamviewer icon will not appear (apparently there is a problem on teamviewer’s end).

I have two SSD hard drives that is controlled by a Kinwin switch, and I can power each one separately. I installed the first Manjaro SSD on 04/12/2020. I also remember a few updates ago after the update the pamac was not launching at all. Then someone suggested to do the following and it fixed the issue.
pamac remove -o
pamac clean --keep 3
pamac-manager
I did the same thing again, but the 30 second delay still remains.
Anyway, here’s the journal on SSD2 (30 second delay to launch)

XFCE power manager changed the battery icon naming scheme (it shows changes every 10% now, like gnome does). So some icon themes may not have the right icons available. If not, it falls back to hicolor icons, which some people may find “ugly.”

XFCE also changed the icon names of many of its included apps (to match gnome’s naming scheme). Icons are provided, but some icon themes may not have ones with the new names, so the icon XFCE provides will be used instead.

So, after CSD, Xfce is totally going in the Gnomeification :grin:

How can I achieve that the icons are again coherent as before the update?

Upon trying to reboot after applying the latest update, I get the error Failed to Start Light Display Manager, and the boot process does not continue. Any suggestions? I have NVidia drivers so I suspect that is part of the problem.

probably you do fsck with a hook in mkinitcpio

so root has to be passed -rw to the kernel. The grub line you cited reverts to -ro the kernel parameter so it conflicted with thise expected from the hook.

If it isn’t your situation, I’ll suggest to dig more into becuse you risk to leave root un-fsck-ed

On Plasma, the icon tasks manager shows smaller icons (like, really small) after the update.
Icons management seems broken too, I basically can’t have the icons modified on the Preferences menu.
Probably Plasma related though.
