Sound not working on Manjaro

Hello,

I am a complete newbie to Manjaro and Linux in general. I just installed the latest stable release on my laptop (Thinkpad L460). The built-in speakers don’t seem to be working. In the case of bluetooth headphones or speakers, there is audio coming, but of very bad quality. I looked through the forum for similar posts to troubleshoot, but can’t figure out what to do. Thanks in advance for any help! Also, apologies if I unknowingly violate any forum rules or guidelines.

This is likely your problem. It has already been covered a lot around here.

Not sure, but also this might be relevant

Thanks for the @maycne.sonahoz . Sorry, I’m a bit unclear. Are pipewire and pulseaudio interfering with each other? If so, should I remove one of them? Both of them seem to have dependencies.

Try (you still have nothing to lose)), install completely [HowTo] Enhance your Linux audio with EasyEffects or PulseEffects Legacy, for this it’s simple in install/remove manjaro-pipewire, select all dependencies and they will completely replace automatically the pulse server. Reboot and check, and then we’ll see

Thanks, this seems to have taken things a bit in the right direction. Replaced pulseaudio completely with pipewire.

  1. The speaker test for the built-in speakers were working in the sound settings for Gnome, but no output from applications (firefox running youtube video).
  2. After connecting bluetooth speakers, the sound quality issue with bluetooth speakers seems to be completely fixed. High fidelity playback is working fine. However, built-in output and input are not working anymore.

Great), try to customize the output through easyeffects. Also see the presence of a sound slider for setting the programs themselves

Wanted to post a final update.

The system dual boots with windows, and there are issues on windows. The windows issues resolve when drivers are rolled back to an older version. It seems the issue might be the proprietary drivers from the manufacturer may be buggy.

I’ll just use Bluetooth for now, until better drivers come around for all platforms.

insure you have packages sof-firmware and alsa-ucm-conf installed and reboot see if it works.

As an option, download Linux mint, or ubuntu and run it in live mode, check if there is sound, if there is and everything is in order, it means that it’s not right in manjaro, if not, then Linux is not for your device yet)
