It worked until it suddenly stopped. Mpv and mplayer make it very confusing for me and I don’t know where to even start troubleshooting this.
The video was choppy, I played with the settings (performance, cores, hardware acceleration, video output driver), reinstalled, SMplayer, mpv and mplayer. But nothing. Now it crashes at start up. VLC work alright.
How do I go about it?

I just tested smplayer and it work 
so I’m presuming mplayer would as well.
I guess that first step to diagnosing it would be to launch it from the terminal and see if it provides any hint as to why it’s being naughty:
smplayer
Just open a terminal emulator window and run that. See if it provides you with any hints as to why it’s misbehaving. Feel free to p rovide the output here.
Tip:

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

Makes me suspect it has something to do with all the GPU codecs and stuff that’s been going on lately. I’m also, because of that, certain I can’t help, reallly.

I managed to get it running (I don’t know exactly what worked, I tried tones of stuff).
However, one problem persists, SMplayer takes about 30 seconds to startup.
If I run it with sudo it starts immediately.
Any idea why?
I got this SMPlayer log that shows where the delay for the startup is. Is it related to audio? Before it started I was messing around with remove pipewire to use pulseaudio.

I use SMPlayer daily and it runs flawless… maybe switch between the engines?
