Scribus appimage 1.5.7 fails to run on Manjaro

First I thought the appimage has some problem, but after trying it on Mate it works fine, on Manjaro it fails to be launched and gives the following output :

Similar issues have been fixed with sudo fc-cache -f -v
or

sudo rm /var/cache/fontconfig/*
rm ~/.cache/fontconfig/*
fc-cache -r

It didn’t work :frowning:

Hello @medmedin

First:

That is a DE (Desktop Enviroment)

That is a Distribution.

Question:

  1. On which Distribution is Mate running on ?
  2. Which Desktop Environment is running Manjaro?

Beside that, I would say that the libraries on the appimage are older and therefore it does not know the element “description”.

Better use the native version:

pamac install scribus

Just wait a bit and version 1.5.7 becomes available there also.

It works on Ubuntu Mate, and on Manjaro I use KDE.

Gave the AppImage a try, and got the same problem. But the native version mentioned above works perfectly, so you should probably stick with that.

1.5.7 is available on Manjaro Unstable, so it should reach the stable branch soon. But if you absolutely can’t wait for 1.5.7 to reach stable, changing branches might be an idea.

So, then I guess this appimage was tested and build on debian based distributions.

However, what is the reason of using an appimage?

You could also ask here for an update: Update requests for packages imported from Arch Linux

Hi @medmedin,

I have no idea what your issue might be. Just to say, I checked now, with a fully updated Manjaro KDE I just downloaded the .AppImage, and as you can see in thee screenshot below

there doesn’t seem to be any problem.

Strange… i was curious and downloaded it myself.

Does not work (Gnome3::Stable-Branch):

Unstable is risky, tried it before and got my system broken after messing with system config files.

Are on stable branch ?

I might be wrong, it wouldn’t surprise me, but it looks like it has something to do with GTK.

Edit:

And it would seem I am wrong, indeed. According to this page,

sudo fc-cache -f -v

should have worked, but according to @medmedin it did not. So I’m suggesting @medmedin try the manual way suggested by @Emqu:

sudo rm /var/cache/fontconfig/*
rm ~/.cache/fontconfig/*
fc-cache -r

Yes, indeed.

Fyi; the manual way did the trick for me with the AppImage (Gnome 40, unstable branch)

Hello, Community !

I have used KDE Manjaro during three years and I often find the “community” version of Scribus (is that the appimage?) unavailable for download.

Today I use this software on Manjaro normally with the AUR version.

I hope I have helped someone.

In this case that may help users who like to use older versions.

You are reason, @Manfrago

Hi there, i see that this version crashes with black splash screen from the beginning

And found the AUR old version and one that don’t understand what is, so what should i do? thanks (i’m new to Linux
