Request help getting Belkin USB bluetooth adaptor working

Bus 001 Device 008: ID 050d:0013 Belkin Components F8T013 Bluetooth Adapter

Is the device, and it’s the first time I’ve tried to use any bluetooth device on this Manjaro Gnome desktop computer (system info below).

I’ve checked bluez and blueman are installed and worked through this guide: How to Troubleshoot Bluetooth in Manjaro but can’t get further than this:

[nick@nick-pc-3 ~]$ sudo rfkill list
[sudo] password for nick:
1: hci0: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
[nick@nick-pc-3 ~]$ sudo systemctl status bluetooth

as I don’t fully understand the output, in particular the “failed” line.

When I first plug the adapter in, a bluetooth icon with a red cross appears on my top indicator bar and when I right-click and choose “Start bluetooth” from the drop-down menu, the icon vanishes. (The blue light remains on on the usb adapter.)

When I go into the Bluetooth section of “Settings” it tells me “Bluetooth Turned Off” but the on-off toggle button on the top bar appears to be malfunctioning as even though in the “On” position (to the right) it still says “Bluetooth Turned Off” in the central area and when I toggle the button to the left it turns on “Aeroplane Mode”.

How should I troubleshoot this issue and get Bluetooth working correctly with this adapter?

I’ve been doing further digging around and found this tutorial: How to Set up Bluetooth in Arch Linux - Jeremy Morgan's Tech Blog

I’m very aware that, as someone pointed out to me recently: “Manjaro is not Arch!”. However, I was looking for clues. I wondered about the tip to activate AutoEnable in the /etc/bluetooth/main.conf file, but when I opened that file I discovered every single line in it was commented out. Should this be the case? I uncommented the AutoEnable line and changed it to “true”, but I suspect in manjaro it’s perhaps another conf file I should be looking at? Or else there should be a lot more lines to uncomment in this one… but which?

You may also search for “bluetooth” here in this forum. There are a few recent threads about it.

Yes, I am aware of that! Most of them seem about different issues to mine, though the thread started by fanciestbanana in Oct 21 seems relevant, but takes me out of my depth. I wouldn’t feel confident compiling or patching a kernel, if that is the issue. And if it is kernel related I’d have thought it would have been fixed by now.
