Realtek TP link wn-722n

Hi, here my first post on new forum.
I have installed successfully the driver rtl8188eus from (https://github.com/aircrack-ng/rtl8188eus.git) for a Tp link wn722n wifi adapter.

lsusb recognize the adapter the I’ve tried to use for connecting to internet but
sudo iw dev wlan1 scan
gives me
command failed: No such device (-19)

Some months ago I used successfully on the the same system and I remember there was some kind of gui appearing when the wifi adapter was connected and I could use it to connect to internet via the adapter, the I had to format the system and now I have no idea how to use it again. Hope somebody can help. Thanks a lot

iwconfig output where wlan0 is my internal wifi card and wlan1 is the adapter:

For one you probably want to use the packages in the AUR as opposed to manually building.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?K=8188
For another … 5.9 is a pretty new kernel … unless you have a specific reason to chase it you might want something else … for example nvidia doesnt really work on 5.9.

Thanks
Actually I change my kernel just because the system suggests me to do it, every time there is a new kernel, so I imagined it was a good choice to do so. I’ll stick to a older one something and check it again.

I’ve changed kernel for 4.19
but still iw dev wlan1 scan gives me No such device.

Have you tried 5.4 LTS already?

So it seems everything is working now.
Yes I changed to kernel 5.4 but I think the problem wasthat I was not using the right command!
Thanks to some tutorial (I cant’ post link, why?)
I’ve found my way on connecting through my wifi adapter to a wpa protocol.
Thanks for your help, but I think the solution was not exactly just changing the kernel.

I post here for future references the commands I used for getting my connection works, assuming that I’ve installed the drivers on the best kernel I can use.

lsusb will tell if the wifi adapter is connected and recognized;

ifconfig will tell the name of device, it is wlan1 in my case;

sudo ip link set wlan1 up will bring the interface up;

sudo iwlist wlan1 scan will use the interface for available network;

in my case i’m connecting to a wpa protected connection, so I will need:
`wpa_passphrase ‘ESSID’ ‘password’ > wpa_supplicant.conf’ will crate a configuration file with ESSID name (it will be shown with the precedent command) and the password of the connection;

‘wpa_supplicant -i wlan1 -c wpa_supplicant.conf -D wext’ where -i is the interface name (wlan1 in this case), -c the file where I’ve saved connection name and password, -D is the driver I’m using (try wpa_supplicant for a complete list).

Last step: ‘sudo dhclient wlan1’ for obtaining an ip address.
