Random reboots daily

My computer reboots once every day at random

Any idea where to check for why it reboots?

journalctl for the reboot:

Can you try another kernel?
E.g.: 5.4.x

1 Like

Can try 5.4 to see if that works better. But do you see anything wrong in the log?

There seems to be nothing to worry about the log before
-- Boot 496e0e49479046c892c4fad4540ddc7d --
What is the command you used to generate the log?
Could you run inxi --faazi and post the output between
```
output here
```
so it shows like this example, that way users can also see your hardware

System:    Kernel: 5.10.13-2-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.2.1
           parameters: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.10-x86_64
...

This way other users might spot something about your hardware + the log might make it easier to see what it is wrong. The log is rather long, it might be good to filter it a bit so only errors show: example: journalctl --since=today --priority=3 & sudo dmesg -l emerg,alert,crit,err,warn Please also post the output like the example:

```
output here
```

Yes, the last update borked mine (after ten minutes maximum it became unuseable), so I called up my GRUB and selected the 5.4 kernel - all is sweet again.

The log is from

journalctl --since=“1 hour ago”

I had this problem for while now so its not something that started after the last update

It’s a problem with i915 driver. I assume you have nvidia optimus laptop. If you switch to nvidia completely, problem will be gone. However, experience is terrible. I heard that kernel 5.11 has a fix for this issue but Manjaro didn’t release it yet.

Edit: you can also try to boot with “nomodeset” however, manjaro won’t boot with that. You have to switch to ubuntu.

No I dont have an Nvidia optimus laptop. Its an HP Elitedesk with only intel

Now it happened again. I’m on Linux manjaro 5.11.1-1-MANJARO

It seems like this issue is very old.

Check out possible solutions mentioned here:

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/53227

Have been running on kernel 5.4 for a while now without reboots. Switched to 5.11 yesterday and tonight I left the computer on and it rebooted during the night

I have never seen it reboot. Look like it happens when it tries to enter suspend

And another reboot

And now it robooted/crashed again. Did an update to latest stable 5.10 kernel, but still the same problem

Another reboot on 5.10

This is not useable. Have to start looking at an other distro

Now it crashed on kernel 5.4. Dont think it has done that before

I dont think its that bug. My computer has never crashed while I been using it. Only when I’m afk. Can leave and when I come back it has rebooted

Also I’m not on a Skylake CPU. My computer has a i3-9300T and thats a Kaby Lake CPU

Another reboot. Computer was idle. But I saw from the sofa that it rebooted

I have an other thread where I ask for help with my computer that reboots when idle. But I dont get any help there so I’m gonna try again in a new thread.

My computer just rebooted 2 time last 3 hours. Happened while it has idle Ia am not using it.

I really need help fixing this
I run on a HP Elitedesk with a Manjaro Gnome fully updated

This is the logs from the latest reboot

Hi @niclasc,

I’m in no way an expert, so I might be wrong. However, this:

leads me to think it might have something to do with hibernation. Is it enabled? If so, have you tried disabling it to see if it makes a difference?

Hope it helps!

What command did you use to get/create that log?
This looks like (part of) a normal boot log.

We would probably need the log of the prior boot and subsequent shutdown.
… to perhaps see what made it shut down … on it’s own …

journalctl
was probably used

man journalctl
journalctl --list-boots

the -b parameter selects the boot protocol
0 is current
-1 the one before

run it via sudo - it sometimes gives more info
(can’t describe the obvious difference better)
