Random crashes after installing RX6600

Okay, she doesn’t actually catch fire. but she does halt!

I unwrapped a brand-new RX6600 (bought from a store! at MSRP! I know!) on the 29th or so. It replaced my RX580.

Initially, I got a very confusing issue where Xfce refused to start. Kernel update to 5.15 fixed that.

The dektop boots! yay! but after maybe ten minutes, the whole system freezes, blackscreens, and reboots.

[ TODO: capture a journalctl -b-1 of the crash ]

Reinstalling the entire OS didn’t help.

I installed Ubuntu, and have been running glmark2 for a while now and it hasn’t crashed so I think it’s a bug specific to Manjaro, but I can’t say for sure.

I’m not smart enough to figure out what part of the OS is causing the crash. Send help!

Welcome to the forum!

Updated!

If its specific to manjaro then this likely isnt the issue … but …
You should update your BIOS.

I reinstalled Manjaro after running Ubuntu 20.04 for a day to verify that the bug was specific to Manjaro, and not Linux in general.

My machine has been running smoothly ever since.

So, future scholar, try reinstalling a newer version of Manjaro. Or maybe try updating your BIOS.

if neither of those work, I have nothing for you.

Did you have tried to use proprietary driver ? For me you are using the free open source driver i.e video-linux.

This command will chekc what I’m thinking

mhwd -li -d --pci

IT JUST FRACKING HAPPENED AGAIN

here’s the output of journalctl -b-1: https://termbin.com/8ta9
yes, it just ends like that. no messages about any kind of error.

not sure what else to post

I reinstalled the OS and it’s fixed.
