Proton and Star Wars Battleftont 2 (2017) crashing after gameplay

Hey all, I have finally decided to ask for support and have lightly followed this post.

My issue, I’m attempting to run Star Wars Battlefront 2 via Steam proton 6.3-7.
I am able to launch the game and join matches in multiplayer with only minor issues. However consistently after 10 or so minutes it will crash and just end itself without any error or message of any kind. I’m left at the Steam page sighing once more as it’s crashed again. How can I help you help me troubleshoot my issue?

I have undone my overclocking 3.6GHz → 3.2GHz back to base speeds. Disabled Direct X12. Disabled Steam overlay and Origin overlay. Enabled DirectX12(Crashed and forced complete reinstall of game.)

On ProtonDB it recommends using this launch option “PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 %command%” However it appears to have no affect on the issue whatsoever.

Any assistance provided is extremely appreciated. I’m wanting to buckle down and figure this out as I actually would really like to play this one.

Maybe try to verify the game files from Steam, it can happen that some files may be corrupted and it crashes the game.

Make sure you use the latest Proton version (v6.3 in Steam Settings).

Try the Steam BETA client, sometimes it can fixes random issues.

Just random suggestions, try one by one and see if it helps. This game I eventually installed on Windows last year (it was the EPIC version though), Origin had so much issues under Proton it made the experience horrible I couldn’t even launch the game because it couldn’t find the EPIC launcher to allow game access…

Thank you for the reply!

I have verified it as well as completely reinstalled the whole application twice. I am using Proton 6.3-7. Have not tried Beta Steam client but it may be worth a try. I do not have the Epic Launcher and do not want to contribute to them… But Origin and EA are absolute TRASH too…

In conclusion: I will try the Steam Beta Launcher and report my results here.

I have attempted to use the Steam Beta launcher and it still consistently crashes after a new effect appears on the screen, normally it’ll stutter for a bit and then continue going. But when it fails it just freezes in the middle, usually when I see an effect on the screen such as an explosion or a force power then it will crash.

Try to enable shader pre-caching in Steam Settings. Allow processing of shaders in the background (same settings page), and restart Steam, it should download some shader cache files and process them in the background, and then it should improve maybe the situation.

I can disable then reenable that, that was actually a solution to one of my other games, good advice! Thank you omano, I’ll try that once again.

Unfortunately it still crashes. I’m blaming Origin but have no proof.
