Problems with update - 1-channel audio in Kdenlive only on left channel

A mono audio file is suddenly only played back in the left channel in Kdenlive.

I am trying to isolate the problem and only install the latest updates step by step.
Then I realize that I canā€™t install ffmpeg (and ffmpeg4.4, mpv, choromaprint). I get the following error:

Please post more information about audio playback streams in PulseAudio or PipeWire

Probably a change in Kdenlive. Go to View and check the ā€œAudio Mixerā€ checkbox, then try this:

Hello nikgnomic,

pactl list-sinks; pactl list sink-inputs
No valid command specified.

Have I done this correctly?

Remove the - from between list and sinks in the first command.

Hello BG405
I canā€™t try this out now in any meaningful way, but by timeshifting I have put Manjaro into an earlier state, and it still works properly.
Iā€™m slowly trying out which update causes the problems.
For example, these cannot be updated individually:

ffmpeg
ffmpeg4.4
chormaprint
libodfgen
libomxil-bellagio
libopenraw
libp11-kit
libpagemaker
libpipewire
lipblacebo

How do you get Kdenlive to display so nicely on your screen? Everything often looks so illegible on my screen.

I have the Breeze Black theme, probably with a few other tweaks I forgot about.

I donā€™t see the same options in your image: which version of Kdenlive? (You said youā€™d rolled back). Current is 24.05.2.

To convert mono to stereo in kdenlive see this tutorial for how to add the copy channel effect

Kdenlive How To Change Mono To Stereo Audio Track | Kdenlive Tutorial - youtube.com

Hello nikgnomic,
Thanks for the tip.
But I do the conversion from mono to stereo or vice versa with Audacity.
But the problem is different. So far, everything has worked as it should for the last few years. With the Manjaro updates a few days ago, something has changed.
Now Iā€™ve gone to the endless trouble of very slowly doing the updates one by one and seeing when the problem reappears.

So, now everything runs as usual with Kdenlive, but without these updates.

ffmpeg
ffmpeg4.4
libplacebo
mlt
mpv
x265

Even the update from mlt makes the sound disappear completely.

Hello @BG405

I just tried it out and unfortunately, when I do all the updates, the right channel is gone when I use 1-channel audio = mono.
Iā€™ll reset my Manjaro with Timeshift in a moment, then everything will work properly again.

Ah, OK. Was worth a try. Iā€™ll have to test it on mine later, sure I have some suitable mono audio files. I need to nip out before the shop shuts!

Hello BG405,
I have just experienced the same phenomenon on my secondary computer, also Manjaro. Before the Manjaro update everything was fine, after the update Kdenlive only plays a mono audio file in the left channel.

Here is one: Filebin | kobu4o1nz65tnw57

Hello BG405,
I would now be very interested to know how and what I have to set in order to achieve such a clear display.
Is it only settings in Kdenlive or also in Manjaro?

So I take it from this that ā€œSolo Modeā€ also makes no difference?

ā€¦ For the themes, itā€™s set in Manjaro. No modification to Kdenlive or other programs. Youā€™ll need to try them to see which looks best for you.

Yes, no difference.
I have narrowed down the cause of the error further:
It is most likely the ā€œmbedtls2ā€ that is causing the problems. As soon as this is updated, mono is only played on the left.

Where can I find the themes Breeze Black theme in Manjaro with Xfce?

Sorry it didnā€™t help but worth a try.

Iā€™d forgotten itā€™s Xfce; Iā€™m on Plasma. Iā€™m sure there must be something similar for Xfce, but my Xfce machine is running Mint and hasnā€™t really been customized much. Itā€™s mostly there as a ā€œfloaterā€ i.e. used when another machine is being worked on. In this case, awaiting repair of the hinge on my housemateā€™s T430 (with Manjaro KDE on it).

I ought to set up a Manjaro Xfce VM and experiment with it a bit.

Hello Brian,
no problem: Now I use KVBlender and I can see, what I have to see:

You donā€™t need to do any more research. Just for my understanding: Is Breeze something for or from Kde, or Plasma and not for Xfce?
