Problems with update - 1-channel audio in Kdenlive only on left channel

These are indeed Plasma themes; I’d think there are equivalents for Xfce, etc…

On my Mint system, there are quite a few themes to choose from by default, via Settings → Appearance. Though in my case I don’t see an obvious way to download new ones like in Plasma on Manjaro (there’s an option to add them locally, I’d just need to look for them online?).

As for research, maybe I don’t need to, but there is always something to find out!

After Manjaro Linux update: Mono audio is only played back in the left channel - #3 by micha - Help - KDE Discuss

The problem is only caused by mbedtls2

The problem is also with older Kdenlive versions and not only with the latest one.

mbedtls2 is required by ffmpeg

$ pactree -rd1 mbedtls2
mbedtls2
└─ffmpeg

ffmpeg is only an optional dependency for kdenlive but it is likely to be a required dependency for other packages

pactree -rd1 ffmpeg

Hello nikgnomic,
the same problem with shotcut: With this update, mono audio is only played in the left channel. Without this update everything is ok, just like with Kdenlive.

Shotcut has a copy filter similar to kdenlive to create a 2nd channel, and a stereo enhancer plugin
Create stereo from mono - Help/How To - Shotcut Forum
Stereo Enhancer Audio Filter - Documentation - English - Shotcut Forum

Hallo nikgnomic,
Yes, both video editors have tools to work around the problem. (I only use one audio channel anyway, the right one is a safety recording reduced by -20 dB in case the sound gets too loud, i.e. to avoid clipping).
I use the tools: “Stereo to mono” or “Haas Stereo Enhancer”

But that’s just a workaround for a problem that didn’t exist before.
Something has changed since the last major update.
Strangely enough, VLC, MVP or SMPlayer have no problems, only Shotcut and Kdenlive.
It would be reassuring if I could find the actual cause and eliminate it.
Let’s see.

The problem obviously has something to do with “mbedtls2”.
But the question remains whether it is a Linux or a Kdenlive (and Shotcut) problem. The media players play 1-channel audio correctly, but unfortunately not the video editors.
I refuse to update them - but this will probably not last forever.
Do any of you have a tip for me?

I just heard that a friend on Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS does not have these problems.
So it could be that it is a Manjaro problem after all.

Pop OS uses Ubuntu packages so kdenlive could be an older version or re-compiled by Ubuntu

Hello nikgnomic
It looks like it is not a Manjaro problem, but one of MLT and therefore Kdenlive. It has probably been recognized and will be fixed soon.

Thanks for your info, it seems to be completely accurate.
