Powertop's result is horribly wrong

I’m currently using Manjaro 21.1.0 with kernel 5.10.53-1, on a HP Probook 455 G8.
Today, I want to test the battery consumption of my laptop, so I unplugged the adapter, then did some web-browsing. Not only the laptop drained battery very quickly (lost 30% in the first hour with a 45Whr battery, and I do have TLP on), but the Powertop 2.14 result was also kind of wrong:

The battery reports a discharge rate of 384 mW
The energy consumed was 7.73 J
The estimated remaining time is 72 hours, 16 minutes

Summary: 1670,6 wakeups/second, 0,0 GPU ops/seconds, 0,0 VFS ops/sec and 44,9% CPU use

As you can see, the shown discharge rate was only 0.38W, and the estimated remaining time was 72 hours, which is not only impossible, but also completely opposite to what I experienced. So do you guys know the reasong for this result, and any solutions for it?
Thanks in advance!
P/s: any tips for better battery management is also welcome!

:+1: Welcome back to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.
  3. Where in powertop did you get that output?

:+1:

Powertop can be VERY misleading. If you have ran the --calibrate operation you should be able to provide more data for the before/after readings. Powertop really relies on data from whatever the kernel provides and it’s quite possible that not every sensor is detected/configured correctly. There’s a bunch of discussions like that on the powertop bug tracker, just mix and match whatever works for you.

Thanks for answering so quickly to my post! I’m sorry for not being able to reply immediately.
Here is the result of my inix command. Sorry for being such a noob:

  1. I got that output in the Overview tab of powertop . The Device stats tab also showed the same stats.

Thanks for your reply. Run powertop --calibrate didn’t fix the problem.
Maybe the cause is that powertop didn’t collect enough data for measurement. Tomorrow I will try running powertop on battery for about an hour to see if it will solve the bug.

The reason doesn’t seem to be lacking data. I’ve run powertop on battery for 2 hours, and the message Cannot load from file /var/cache/powertop/saved_parameters.powertop has disappeared. However, the bug still remains.
Here are the messages that I recieved when open & close powertop. I hope they help identifying the problem:
