I noticed several posts, without solutions, complaining about bluetooth audio headsets stuttering.
…and so on. Since I had this problem and found a solution, here is what worked for me. I use the KDE variant, and will try my best to provide an alternative approach.
For KDE users, click on this:
From the options shown, I noticed several “High Fidelity Playback” and a couple “Headset Head Unit” options. Selecting one of the “Headset Head Unit” options (doesn’t seem to matter which one), the audio played without any problems.
For non KDE users, you can also use pavucontrol, under the Configuration tab.
Fine, you want a “real” answer and not a band-aid. Picky…
For me, none of the “usual” solutions seemed to be working (e.g., adjusting latency offset). The problem was actually some weirdness between my laptop’s built-in WiFi card and Bluetooth adapter (some BS MediaTek adapter…) I remembered this randomly, removed my built-in WiFi adapter’s kernel module, and connected with a USB WiFi adapter. This resolved my audio problems, even with the high fidelity sinks.
Others might consider checking on this too. If you can, you might try changing your router band to 5GHz-only (I have a Nintendo Switch, so…). Otherwise, try a USB WiFi card, and disable the built-in.
Mediatek (and Realtek) implementations are typically flaky with anything apart from the OS a Laptop was originally designed for (Windows).
Of course, as I use a desktop machine, I might opt to invest in a high quality discrete audio device to:
Unfortunately with a Laptop, we are limited by the relative quality of available hardware; when it works.
