Please help me properly install my new SSD storage drive

I am expecting a second SSD drive in a day or so. I want to use it as additional storage only for games (so no boot needed) . I have read a number of threads and tutorials, most of which seem not to address my use specifically. I suspect that is because what I want to do is too simple to require a tutorial?
I do have some questions about this process, and I would be very grateful if anyone could take a look, point out any mistakes or missing steps, and/or help with my questions.

I believe that all I need to do is connect the new storage disk to my motherboard and boot up. At that point my disk should appear and I can format it with kde partition manager. I would like to format the new disk btrfs because of the compression. Will that be a problem since my primary SSD is ext4? ALso, my new SSD is slightly faster read/write. Would it make sense to move the swap file from the old to the new SSD?

After it is formatted, I need to create a directory for it. I am following the advice of this post:

No, it’ll be a separate filesystem, so I don’t see how this could be a problem.

Not really. Besides, there are special things to take into consideration for creating a swap file on btrfs.

What you could do is create a separate swap partition on the new SSD if you think it would be faster.
