Plasma Pipewire/Pulseaudio does not remember sound volume

After reboot, logout, or plugging headphones in and out, the system does not remember the sound that was previously set on any device, including the microphone.
If i set volume to 50%, plug headphones in and out, the sound will reset to 100%. If i set to 50% on headphones, replug them again, it will set to 0%.
What can i do to fix this?

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.
  3. The output of pacmd list would be helpful as well.

It seems that i have pipewire installed in addition to pulseaudio, but i don’t remember installing it, perhaps it comes from a new update? maybe pipewire broke everything?

You have the same kind of config as me and on my system this work, except for:

so please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Time Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least?

:crossed_fingers:

No, the same problem persists, i don’t think it’s a problem with kernel to begin with, probably something with pipewire.

Please execute:

alsa-info.sh

answer Y to upload to the ALSA project web page and provide the link they’re giving you back here…

@nikgnomic Can you have a look here, please? (I’m out of my leageue again)

:sob:

ALSA audio settings show the Headphone output set to 100% and unmuted, but Speakers set to 0% and muted

Simple mixer control 'Headphone',0
  Front Left: Playback 74 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]
  Front Right: Playback 74 [100%] [0.00dB] [on]

Simple mixer control 'Speaker',0
  Front Left: Playback 0 [0%] [-99999.99dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 0 [0%] [-99999.99dB] [off]

It would be typical to see the Speaker muted when Headphones are plugged in, and speakers should unmute and change volume if headphone jack is unplugged
But not when ALSA Auto-Mute function to control this has been disabled

Simple mixer control 'Auto-Mute Mode',0
  Item0: 'Disabled'

I suggest you use this command to unmute the Speakers and set level to 75%

amixer -c0 sset Speaker 75% unmute

and this to turn on the auto-mute

amixer -c0 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' Enabled

and finally this to save the correct settings for ALSA

sudo alsactl store

You can check ALSA settings are still correct when system is rebooted with the terminal mixer

alsamixer -c0

but if you need to post text-data here use this command

amixer -c0
