Phavo Gnome Clean Install Fails

AMD Ryzen 5, NVidia Geforce 1650

I run the live install with open source drivers, and try a clean install, but I get the below error. Not new to Linux, but new to Manjaro. What other information would be helpful on troubleshooting this?

Boost.Python error in job "unpackfs".

Command '['unsquashfs', '-l', '/run/miso/bootmnt/manjaro/x86_64/desktopfs.sfs']' returned non-zero exit status 1.

I’m typing this post from my other PC, but imagemagick is mentioned as part of the rest of the error message.

b'squashfs-root\nsquashfs-root/.manjaro-tools\nsquashfs-root/boot\nsquashfs-root/desktopfs-pkgs.txt\nsquashfs-root/etc\nsquashfs-root/etc/.gnome40new\nsquashfs-root/etc/.pwd.lock\nsquashfs-root/etc/ImageMagick-7\nsquashfs-root/etc/ImageMagick-7/colors.xml\nsqu
File "/usr/lib/python3.9/subprocess.py", line 528, in run
raise CalledProcessError(retcode, process.args,

Any thoughts on why this is failing? I should mention that a clean install of XFCE works just fine.

Hi there, Welcome to the forum!

That statement is not in question. :+1:

However, in order to get proper assistance from our community, we recommend that you provide information from your system as per below:

Also, I’ve noticed you reported another issue on an existing thread. See below.

Please note that bumping threads is discouraged. See the guidelines under the section "How to Post" on the forum rules

Thanks. Have fun!

Apologies for the bump. I can open a separate thread when needed on that one. For now just trying to get a good install on Gnome.

Not sure how much is relevant from dmesg, but there were a handful of these errors:

What else might be helpful for troubleshooting?

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  • Looks like a dodgy download: did you verify the SHA1 of your .iso?
  • Better take the proprietary ones as nouveau is good for older cards, but as nVidia doesn’t publish its source code, the Nouveau Team has to reverse-engineer everything so they’re playing catch-up all the time…

:crossed_fingers:

Checksum and GPG checked out for both full and minimal. I tried the full and the minimal installs as plain vanilla for partitioning as could be had. Ideally, I’d like to go with a partioned home directory, but to eliminate potential issues, I’m doing nothing manual. No swap either for these attempts.

Minimal installed just fine as of this morning. Although it still suffers from the same (and separate) GDM login issue mentioned earlier.

Just as a follow up to this. I couldn’t figure the issue out after a couple of days of troubleshooting. I just installed XFCE and moved on as this is my primary machine.
