Considering there are 6 Active Wiki Users (1 moderator, 3 translators, 2 bots), posting on the forum gets a faster response (previous post reporting a typographical error was reported and resolved very quickly)
The Wiki category is a category in which you can report any wrong, missing, out-of-date wiki content or suggest any idea about the wiki.
Reporting via forum is also more open, so forum users can validate, rebut, or obfuscate comments,
or maybe suggest a replacement URL so the moderator can update page with minimal delay
As i started with manjaro, i skimmed through the wiki and then looked at the forum tutorials. The wiki is nowadays pretty much useless in the everyday life of the average user, just like the pdf manual before that. It is just not maintained. The forum has more information, BUT the search engine is terrible, so one is actually better off using an external search engine like google or duckduckgo with site:… tag.
3 notable exceptions, that still make the wiki important, those pages are up to date and not covered in the forum and often linked, so the otherwise useless wiki has to stay because of these 3 tutorials (until someone migrates them to the forum):
OK, the word useless was a bit rude, sorry. I just meant there are many articles that were not touched since years and need updating. Wrong links, old screenshots, new infos missing, like the above mentioned examples of the QT variable, since it has to now be added how to source the .profile because it is not sourced by default anymore. As i mentioned in this tutorial.
It just is a lot of work to make it correct again. I considered volunteering, but i just do not have the spare time for it, unfortunately.
You mean ~/.bash_profile instead of ~/.xinitrc @banjo banjo?
Not than it would not work that way too, but editing the small .bash_profile may be less intimidating for new users. At least on xfce that it, i am not sure if the other DEs use bash.
Then if you see issues in the WIKI report it in this section, I guess, people with time may correct it. Anyway if people have no time to edit the WIKI, they have no time to answer the forum so the problem is the same, the forum can “supersede the WIKI” (from what you say) only because people chose to spend the time on the forum instead of the WIKI. SO the issue could be the people, not the WIKI.
Hmm, on what DE are you actually banjo? I do not have .Xprofile (by default) on my xfce. And i wonder if it will be appropriate if one uses Wayland. No idea.
It is indeed Omano. I have some time, but not for both and so far i just chose the forum. I will skim the wiki again to at least pinpoint what bothers me.

Actually, when i look at the wiki now, it is a lot better than i remember since i visited some time in 2023. And i see timestamps of many edits in the last year. So somebody worked on it. So i take my words back. It needs some corrections and polishing, but is still useful.
