Nvidia 3050 + intel GPU i915 notebook: lagging and max. refresh rate 120 hz impossible

After my previous victory of installing the correct drivers and being able to boot, it’s time to tackle number 2. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I have an Asus vivobook pro, with intel 11370 cpu and a Nvidia geforce 3050 and onboard intel gpu. The display is a 2.5K @ 120hz.
I bought this laptop recently, believing that Nvidia and Linux had becom good friends. Well, I have tried about 15 distros. With each and every one of them I had GPU problems. Eventually I tracked those down to the kernel version. I tried Linux mint, fedora, Parrot, Pop os, nobara, kubuntu, ubuntu, solus, neon kde and all with different DEs: kde plasma, mate, cinnamon, xfce, gnome. Sometimes you have the option to load open or proprietary drivers. Even that made no difference.

  • Kernel 5.15 and below: horrible flickering, like here. Little did I know you could have a workaround (add i915.enable_psr=0 as kernel parameter in grub)
  • from 5.16 things got better. Flickering is gone, but every thing that gets drawn, seems to be really slow. Mouse cursor follows the mouse very late, the cursor freezes. Especially when I get to the top of a window, where the titlebar and close/maximize/minimize buttons are, it seems like a lot of effort for my notebook. It does not feel snappy at all! If I move the mouse a bit fast, it is not a smooth movement (same with trackpad).
  • From the 6.0 kernel it gets acceptable if I lower the refresh rate from 120hz to 60hz.

A lower resolution does not help, and it also makes no difference if I force the Nvidia card or Intel GPU. Changing Vsync settings: no difference.

Anyone knows what I could investigate or try?
