No speaker sound, headphone sound ok

My speakers give no sound after Manjaro install. Headphones are ok, though. As in archwiki, I tried

amixer sset Speaker unmute

but get

amixer: Unable to find simple control 'Speaker',0

When I look at alsamixer, I see Pulseaudio in the top left, and when i look at

alsamixer -c 0

this brings up the GPU. But -c 1 gives ‘HD-Audio Generic’ which is the realtek chip which I assume I should want, since it has my headphones listed. Auto-mute is disabled too.

I’m new to Manjaro, can someone help me out getting my speakers enabled?

Thanks

I would install “pavucontrol” and use that, if on kde there is also a qt version.

PulseAudio Volume Control pavucontrol is installed by default on Xfce, and unlikely to help with speaker issue

Please post response to this command to show ALSA settings for onboard audio device

amixer -c1

and this to show more information about PulseAudio sinks

and yes, if relevant, I am using XFCE

thanks all

edit: could someone let me know what I’m looking for here?

PulseAudio data shows Sink #1 for Starship/Matisse HD Audio Controller Analog Stereo has 2 sink Ports, but only Headphones Port is shown as available

    Ports:
analog-output-lineout: Line Out (type: Line, priority: 9000, not available)
analog-output-headphones: Headphones (type: Headphones, priority: 9900, available)
	Active Port: analog-output-headphones

PulseAudio will avoid using Line Out Port because it is detected as not available

ALSA control for speaker output to Front channels is shown as muted

Simple mixer control 'Front',0

  Front Left: Playback 87 [100%] [0.00dB] [off]
  Front Right: Playback 87 [100%] [0.00dB] [off]

Use this command to unmute Front mixer control

amixer -c1 sset Front 87 unmute

Good afternoon!

I would like to know if you managed to solve the problem. I have a similar problem on my computer. However I am using KDE-Plasma (Kernel 6.1.29-1) and my computer is an LG All In One (2016/2017). I did all the steps listed above, but none of them worked. Can you help me or better open another post so I don’t disturb this one?

Welcome to Manjaro forum

Forum stats for topic creator show they were last seen on 12 Oct '22 so they are not likely to return and continue the conversation

I suggest you start a new topic and post more information about audio devices detected in ALSA

sudo alsa-info.sh --upload

@nikgnomic , thank you for the return. I will do it.

thanks for your help, my reply was delayed due to unavoidable circumstances - how do you tell which channel would correspond to the audio which I should get from hooking up a monitor to the computer via HDMI cable? Because so far I don’t receive any output on the monitor’s speakers, but I would have thought that they should be able to receive it just fine through the HDMI cable.

It seems the only issues are specifically with the HDMI channel. The audio works ok if I put the cable in where the headphones should normally go and switch to the Starship/Matisse audio controller, but not if they’re plugged in at the back or with the HDMI option.
