Hey, Im pretty much a complete noob (this is my first time trying something else than windows) and decided to try using Manjaro on my new laptop since im studying software.
However, Ive found myself in a quite lot of problems, and this is one of them.
My sound doesnt work, at least from speakers (i have not been able to try it on headphones) even though, according to the computer and alsamixer, there is sound playing. Some help?
Some specifications:

First thing to do after installing is to update the system, e.g. via
sudo pacman -Syu
and to reboot afterwards.
This kernel is “End Of Life” and should be replaced by another kernel. This can be done by the Manjaro Settings Manager (GUI) for example. After installing another kernel, reboot and delete kernel 6.9.
Further details:
Okay, so Ive installed 6.6.52-1-MANJARO and updated the system just as you said, and audio isnt working yet
Kernel: 6.6.52-1-MANJARO arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 14.2.1
Desktop: KDE Plasma v: 6.1.5 Distro: Manjaro base: Arch Linux
Audio:
Device-1: Intel Raptor Lake-P/U/H cAVS vendor: Micro-Star MSI
driver: sof-audio-pci-intel-tgl bus-ID: 0000:00:1f.3
Device-2: NVIDIA vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel
bus-ID: 0000:01:00.1
API: ALSA v: k6.6.52-1-MANJARO status: kernel-api
Server-1: JACK v: 1.9.22 status: off
Server-2: PipeWire v: 1.2.3 status: active ````
The kernel and the audio are mutually exclusive.
You have an audio issue (it… doesn’t work)
You also had a kernel issue (it needed to be replaced)
Replacing the kernel wasn’t expected to magically fix your audio.
I hope that clears it up.
Cheers.
Alright, thank you! I just wasnt sure if changing the kernel it would help with it.
Still, I hope to find a way because Im not yet sure of why it isnt working, in case someone is able to help
And neither is anyone else (yet).
There’s no mention of anything audio related in today’s round of updates. However, there’s this pipewire-pulse conflicts with pulseaudio-ctl dating back to 2024-08-08. Maybe that’s related, maybe not.
If you provide the output from:
inxi --admin --verbosity=8 --filter --no-host --width
this might give others a better perspective.

Install these two packages:
sof-firmware and sof-tools by
sudo pacman -Syu sof-firmware sof-tools
and reboot.

Welcome to Manjaro and our Forum
Magacu:
Kernel: 6.9.12-3-MANJARO
So you just fresh installed your system and used a older ISO?
I hope not, because its important to use the newest ISO on a Rolling Release Distro.

As long as you are able to update them, older ISO are no general problem to be used.
Kobold

But what about regression? Isn’t Kernel 6.9 EOL since 2 month now?
Doesn’t that mean the ISO could be older than 3 month at least?

If you can update from the installed system, the ISO was fine. In case of an EOL kernel you need to switch to another kernel soon, yes, but this is required from time to time anyway as long you are not using an LTS-kernel.

For a Raptor Lake this could be smart amplifiers not working for audio to speakers
Please post more information about audio devices detected in ALSA

Likely unrelated to this issue, but you should probably configure swap
sooner rather than later. You have none, which may be detrimental for any applications that require it.
Cheers.
