I suggest stop PulseAudio and PipeWire services and check if ALSA is working as expected before troubleshooting software sound servers
systemctl --user stop pipewire.socket pipewire.service pulseaudio.socket pulseaudio.service
Use a music player with local content (or speaker-test
) to play audio direct to hardware device in ALSA (analog audio to speakers/headphones is likely to be: hw:0,0)
HW probe of Toshiba TECRA Z40-C #9612659f60: aplay
Reboot system to restart sound servers after testing
If ALSA audio is not working as expected, please post more information about ALSA devices and drivers
sudo alsa-info.sh --upload

The discussion from December 2021 has an accepted solution in post #2 that is not consistent with moderator comment in post #11
PipeWire documentation is also not consistent with unsubstantiated allegations from last year
Troubleshooting PulseAudio/PipeWire is a waste of time if audio from software sound servers cannot play through ALSA to hardware
