You correct, i meant “opt-in”.
I edit my post above.

One question, why is machine-id so important?
For testing I deleted /etc/machine-id and once rebooted a new file with a different id has been created.
I am guessing for identifying unique installations in the statistics.
I think with that little point i have to disagree, Trust Level vote actually fits pretty good for important votes.
It helps against fake account votes.
Here’s my Device Finger print.
"device_id": "3c63cd61-4f6e-50aa-878c-7c501fb1a886",
Find me, tell me who I am, what I do for a Living, Where I live… etc.
I swear you’ll have better luck tracking my on line presence, and not much there either.
Browser fingerprinting is quite different from what is happening here, with Manjaro’s Device ID. Browser Finger printing is where, on the Server side, the Information your Browser sends is utilised to identify a specific Browser OS and peripheral requirements combination, then utilised to track that combination over websites where the Tracking entity has a presence. It is considered more reliable than Cookies, because cookies can be removed.
Additionally, Browser Fingerprinting can’t tell the Tracking entity Who you are, only that a specific Browser, OS, and peripheral Requirements combination exists. If you change your Browser, the Finger print changes, and they have to start all over again, and it’s highly likely that even the Ads targeting that Finger Print will change.
I’m not the Joey.

Not me either.

Oh there I am.
Im not a Tracking or advertising company…
But this information helps to make your device UNIQUE.
And in the second where you use a Account/Login your informationed are linked to your E-Mail and then the connection to other stuff.
Nor is Manjaro.
Browser Fingerprint doesn’t require you to be logged in. It merely requires that you visit the site, and any other site where the Tracking entity has a presence. Then they can target the Advertising at you.
Sites where you actually log in don’t need Browser Finger printing to know who you are.
What an argument… in times where the goverments anytime play the gag order card.
I didnt said this… i was only talking about a combination.
Off topic:-
I do find it inconvenient that more sites lately insist on having your real IP address in order to connect. Or, I should say, a non-VPN, non-privacy-protected IP address. My first impulse is to say ‘Here’s your real IP!’ and hammer their IP address for a month.
In this new world of privacy-first I’m constantly amazed at how many actively fight against it rather than support it.
Governments still can’t know who you are from Manjaro’s Device ID. They would need access to your Device for that… if they have that you are ■■■■■■ anyway.
What an arguement… in times where the goverments anytime play the gag order card.
I am sure that if Manjaro were issued a gag order — which is not exactly a common occurrence in Europe — then the developers would tell us about it. They have been nothing but open and forthcoming about everything so far.

You must be using the wrong VPN
I am sure that if Manjaro were issued a gag order — which is not exactly a common occurrence in Europe — then the developers would tell us about it.
It wasnt common in the US till the second Edward Snowden told us.
The Developer can’t tell us, thats why it called GAG order.
I would be happier if Manjaro stood against the trend and instead provided a prompt to the user asking them to opt-in, and by doing so, I would be happy to participate out of appreciation and support for this community.
Whether it’s opt-in or op-out hardly matters.
To benefit those misunderstanding the basic concept, let’s try to simplify this:
Opt-In: Want it?
YesNo (pre-selected)Opt-Out: Want it?
Yes (pre-selected)NoEither way, the User gets to choose.
It wasnt common in the US till the second Edward Snowden told us.
Europe is not quite the same thing as the USA yet, amigo. It is slowly moving in that direction, yes, but we’re not quite there yet.
Find me, tell me who I am
I found you!
Won’t you please
Please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
Please tell me who I am
The Logical Song

Europe is not quite the same thing as the USA yet
Exactly yet, but we adapt almost everything from there.
I wouldn’t call that slowly, when i see how quick my country changed.
I really cannot understand the push back on basic hardware telemetry?
There is a line between basic, anonymous hardware usage telemetry and collecting/mining personal data for some nefarious reason.
A project of this caliber must have some kind of gauge of their efforts and there is NOTHING in MDD that is wrong or immoral about it.
I fully support this effort and I applaud it.
