Manjaro Settings Manager installs wrong driver version for NVIDIA Pascal cards (‘open’ instead of correct one)

Regarding latest stable update I wanted to try older graphics driver first (before fully updating), so I run Manjaro Settings Manager and removed ‘video-nvidia’ and clicked installation for ‘video-nvidia-575xx’. Installation finished and I rebooted my PC. Graphics session was not working so I logged into tty, thinking maybe some newer package was installed that was conflicting with the old packages in my system. After performing an update with pacman -Syu issue was still there, so I checked pacman -Qs nvidia and found out Manjaro Settings Manager installed the open version instead of the normal one. Also running nvidia-driver-assistant recommended me running sudo pacman -S linux612-nvidia-575xx so it replaced the old one. After reboot system booted up normally.

I believe this should have not happened and the GUI version should be ready to install the correct driver.

:bangbang: Tip :bangbang:

When posting terminal output, copy the output and paste it here, wrapped in three (3) backticks, before AND after the pasted text. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Sed
sollicitudin dolor
eget nisl elit id
condimentum
arcu erat varius
cursus sem quis eros.

Instead of like this:

Sed sollicitudin dolor eget nisl elit id condimentum arcu erat varius cursus sem quis eros.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as described above.

Thereby increasing legibility thus making it easier for those trying to provide assistance.

For more information, please see:

As I’m a moderator on the forum, I have taken the liberty of doing this for you, this time.

:bangbang::bangbang: Additionally

If your language isn’t English, please prepend any and all terminal commands with LC_ALL=C. For example:

LC_ALL=C bluetoothctl

This will just cause the terminal output to be in English, making it easier to understand and debug.

Note that the above text is partially pre-prepared as a general introduction for new forum Users. Please take the time to to understand how it is done and encourage quality responses.

Please edit your post (above) and place any code or command output within a scrollable pre-formatted text enclosure according to forum guidelines.

Your topic has been temporarily unlisted to allow the opportunity to attend to this, and will be relisted once completed.

[MiniHowTo] Present code or command output

Note: Grave accent (or, backtick) characters are used. :eyes:

For inline code or to show a single command:

  • please follow this simple example: code here.

For multi-line command output:

  • place text beween two rows of three (```) backtick characters to form a scrollable text box, or …
  • use the </> button in the Compose window to achieve the same result.

The empty row between these rows of backtick characters is where to paste any multi-line command output (such as inxi).

An example of a pre-formatted text enclosure:

What is a Quark?

A. In Physics, an elementary particle and fundamental constituent of matter.
B. A character from the Star Trek: "Deep Space Nine" television series.
C. A soft, creamy, usually unsalted cheese traditional to central Europe.

OP has attended to required formatting and the topic has been relisted. Thank you. :+1:

While trying to edit, the formatting got completely messed up, so I’m giving you a new inxi output. As I already installed the 580xx-dkms drivers, the old inxi output got lost. The only difference from this new one is the driver version. It was 575.64.05 before I installed 580xx-dkms.

That’s all. I see you care more about formatting instead of focusing on the issue, but ok.

Just to reiterate what @soundofthunder said.

If the formatting leaves the information difficult to read, or unreadable. The Issue can not be focussed on.
