Manjaro KDE USB installation media stuck at "Plasma made by KDE"

Hello everybody.

I’m trying to install Manjaro. I’ve downloaded the iso and used dd to create a usb installation media with the command

sudo dd bs=4M if=manjaro-kde-17.0.6-stable-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc && sync

but when I boot the media the screen stucks with the Manjaro logo and “Plasma made by KDE” in the left-bottom.

I’m using Opensuse Tumbleweed with Plasma in my desktop and I come from 4 years of archlinux (KDE and plasma).

Hardware:

CPU: Intel Core2duo E7400
Graphics card: Intel 82G33/G31 Express
Ram: 4gb

I don’t have this on my loading screen. But then again, I use a different theme for mine.

That’s not helpful. :slight_smile: Boot the 17.0.6 image to check. :wink:

I know. I’m never helpful…

Lies.

Anyhow - can we get back on topic? :stuck_out_tongue:

Jajaja, no problem. It’s the installation media. I will take a photo.

Maybe should i boot with nomodeset parameter?

This command looks good (except sync also needs to be run with sudo, i.e. sudo sync).

Have you verified the image checksum, and that the USB stick works with another image (to rule out an issue with the USB drive itself)?

Normally if you can get any graphics you don’t need this parameter, however it won’t hurt anything to try.

Yes, i did. And sorry. I will recreate the installation media

I tried

su
dd bs=4M if=manjaro-kde-17.0.6-stable-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc && sync

but i get the same result.

nomodeset neither work.

Sorry for my english. I’m still learning.

The problem was the kwin composition backend. To solve the problem I started the installation from the usb and when the system loaded opened tty2 (CTRL+ALT+F2) and edited ~/.config/kwinrc with nano

nano ~/.config/kwinrc

Added the line

Backend=XRender

and

sudo systemctl restart sddm

Awesome - thanks. That helped me out when my Opensuse Tumbleweed install updated then no longer let me log in with plasma. Very odd.

Cheers
