I tried to use the guides to copy commands to configure DaVinci resolve so that it would start at least. As a result, my system now does not open a black screen. Something’s wrong with the poor nvidia drivers, I haven’t been able to migrate to linux properly for a week because of this, and I’m just frustrated. I do not know what to do, I have already managed to transfer the video for editing there in this restart attempt (the next one), but now I cannot start the system and it is even more difficult to find information about it all from the phone. I’m very tired and I don’t understand why everything is so terrible.

So:
you have problems starting DaVinci resolve.

… and did some things you found somewhere and now your system doesn’t even start?

If you can’t boot:
chroot (manjaro-chroot -a for example)
and revert what you did
or find out and document what you did - from the shell history, for example
so that someone could assist in reverting what you did …

as it is now:
no one knows what you did … :man_shrugging:

Well, I don’t know what I did either, because I’m new to Linux and I’m already disappointed with it. It’s just that the programs don’t install normally, nothing works. And if you have nvidia, then everything will break. I’ve already reinstalled manjaro 10 times from the steering wheel and nothing.
I do not even know how and what logs I need to provide to help me. Isn’t this place created for people like me to help people who don’t know what to do? If I knew better, I probably wouldn’t have come here.

It is exactly that.
A place to ask for and (more often than not) find help.

But without information (of what you did, what your system specs are, etc.)
any response could only be one of two things:

  • blind speculation
  • asking you for that needed information

Some people here - I’m sure one of them will appear here shortly - will provide guidance on how to gather the information.
… information which you (should) have - but don’t know how to access …

(you should at least know what you did and why - and be able to relay that information)

Just wait a bit (for the people I have mentioned …) and be prepared to read and learn through what info they will provide.

You may be new and inexperienced.
That’s o.k.
We all where at some point.

But: we need to know some things in order to even begin to try to help.

perhaps a different distro than Manjaro or Arch is better suited for you as a beginner …

I, for instance, know the inner workings of Arch/Manjaro a lot better than any Debian/Ubuntu based OS.
Even though I use Debian now and did start my Linux experience with it almost 30 years ago -
I still find Arch/Manjaro much simpler, easier to understand and configure.

There is a minimum amount of knowledge that is expected in order for us to be able to help you through the forum.

Imagine sitting in a Boeing 747 and asking someone on the phone how to fly it. This might work, if you have flown Boeing 737 before and you only need to find the differences. It will definitely not work, if you have never ever piloted an airplane before. You will not know what to look to convey the necessary information to the helper, and after you receive instruction, you will not be able to execute it in a timely manner before the plane crashes. It will have to be broken into 100 smaller instructions, which will take insane amount of time. It just won’t work, regardless of what Hollywood makes you think.

If you are still willing to try, here is some introductory information:

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.

To that end, links are provided (below) - Please use them.

Be prepared to provide outputs from various commands when asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Waiting for someone to blindly ask questions is also counter-productive – typically, nobody has a :crystal_ball: at their disposal – Instead, please help others to ask informed questions, based on information you provide.

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8

Well - Linux is very user friendly - it is just picky about whom to call friends

If you expect it to work like Windows - Linux is not for you - this is even more true for a distribution based on Arch Linux.

  1. DaVinci Resolve is not in the official repos but AUR.
  2. AUR requires at a bare minimum - Manjaro testing branch - prefereably unstable branch.

So it is really up to you - are you up for the challenge - great keep on knocking - if not - have a nice day.
