Manjaro goes a few slow

Manjaro is a bit slow for me. Especially when I use brave, on youtube videos it gets choppy. In visual studio when I write it goes slow. What I can do?

Please provide the output of inxi -Fza so that we can get an idea of what your laptop is like

Please also use ``` before and after the output.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.

:+1:

P.S. If you enter a bit more details in your profile, we can also see which Desktop Environment you’re using, which CPU/GPU or Kernel, … you have without typing it every time

It’s already edited, thanks

It should also be clarified that the internet is a bit slow, I use a cable connection.

An almost 10 year old laptop with a single core processor is going to be slow with a modern OS no matter what.

The data:

The conclusion:

Running an advanced Desktop environment like KDE on an Intel Single core without GPU hardware acceleration and 4G of RAM is going to be slow regardless of the pretty good SSD and an Ethernet connection.

You can tweak things here and there but it won’t matter much (I.E. ~10-15%) without a RAM and CPU upgrade.

If you don’t have the $$$ to upgrade RAM and CPU:

  • Take a lightweight DE like LXDE or XFCE
  • set your swappiness to 90 and your cache pressure to 75

That’ll improve things a bit, but don’t expect miracles: 10-15% less slow is the best you can do without a hardware upgrade.

If you want to continue using this hardware, and if even Manjaro LXDE seems to be slow, you can try distros tailored for old hardware, like antiX, LXLE, Bodhi, or Puppy Linux as a last resort.
