How do I stop manjaro-data-donor from installing on my systems? This software is HIGHLY dangerous and I want it nowhere near my system. The forum is trying to stop me from posting this. Manjaro is dying…
Did you mean to post something?
Hint: If you wrote in between some tags like <!--
then all of your content is invisible.
Considering it appears you are having touble… I’ll use the powers of moderation to do it for you.
No, it is not.
You just didnt read what you were doing and typed all of your text in between tags intended to be removed. In those tags would be all the explanation and notes for you to better understand this situation, including links on how to format and so on.
Apparently you did not manage to absorb any of that information and simply left your text in an invisible state.
Well, its not being force installed at any rate.
But you could block it the same way you block any other package. Add it to IgnorePkg.

You could likewise put any path on the NoExtract line.

By what metric?
If its simply by your ability to interact with the forum (or not), then I must say thats an odd way to measure the vitality of a project.
Telemetry, that’s how. You guys will never get another new install out of me. EndeavourOS it is. Manjaro-Data-Donor is the death knell to what was once my favorite distribution. Such a shame. Manjaro was my absolute favorite…
Stop with the dramatics.
I showed you how to block packages or files if you really needed to (you dont).
But if you would rather scribble some extra polemics instead and threaten to leave … well, I never feel much threatened by a good time. Cheers.
Yet, you didn’t share the actual name of the package, it’s being sneak installed to collect private data on users. This distro is great, but this is absolutely TERRIFYING. I might as well be using Windows still.
Are you being purposefully obtuse?
You are scared of the thing but never even peeked at the discussion or development or anything?
Its package mdd
… good grief.
I can’t recommend this distro anymore. Like at all. I found the package on my own, it’s called mdd (for now, until they sneak change it) and it will be blocked on all 10+ of my PC’s and VM’s. You guys really outdid yourselves this time, I hope this gets more publicity, because it’s an abomination of everything Linux used to stand for…
Im glad you were finally able to get there. The package name has never changed.
But its no secret - even the idea of how it should be implemented has a currently running poll.
In the future you will look less manic if you take the time to become informed before becoming irate.
I left Windows because of this type of spying, so yes, I am TERRIFIED of Linux turning into Windows. First KDE with ads begging for donations, now this, thankfully Arch doesn’t implement this kind of stuff. You’ll change the name eventually, I have ZERO trust in this distro anymore. Sneaky installs of telemetry on future updates will destroy Linux.
Yawn. Ok then leave already and stop polluting the forum.
I don’t want it anywhere near my system at all and I don’t trust any distro that even thinks about implementing stuff like this.
Where is the option for no install at all? There should be one.
I already provided you with everything you would need to better understand or to avoid the package manually and so on.
You have protested loudly that you have no trust and are leaving.
This is no longer a practical use of my time.
So long.
There are still some Linux distros that meet your requirements and do not contain any nonfree applications, nonfree programming platforms, nonfree drivers, nonfree firmware “blobs,” nonfree games, and any other nonfree software, as well as nonfree manuals or documentation: List of Free GNU/Linux Distributions - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation
You might be especially interested in switching to Parabola GNU/Linux-libre, which is based on Arch.
Only if Manjaro stops polluting Linux.
Yeah, this why my “Manjaro is dying” statement rings true. What a shame. This was such a good distro.

mdd
will most likely be opt-in. At present time, the tool — it’s a simple Python script — is still under development, and only a few volunteers have it installed. Given that it’s still under development, it must also still be invoked manually at this point in time. That’s what the currently ongoing thread — with a poll — is about, which @cscs has provided the link to. But if you refuse to read it and rather be a drama queen, then that’s on you. -
No personally identifying information is being gathered or sent. The script has a dry-run option which shows you the data it gathers without sending said data to the Manjaro servers.

The gathered data is not being shared with anyone. It only serves so as to offer statistics, which you can find here. Do you see anything there that can identify anyone?
I use Arch on my desktop, but I really like using manjaro in VMs and my laptops. I have to switch them all now, but I really like Pamac and sometimes it breaks in Arch proper, so I’ll probably just have to change most of my install scripts to use yay. I actually like that they hold back packages, I just can’t support a distro that implements this type of malware/spyware into their distro. I’m in cybersecurity, so I can’t bring myself to use this anymore. It’s literally malware!
