Machine Crashes after graphical glitch

The general synopsis is, I play a game. Machine crashes game (whether its, lutris of steam). All Icons turn into a generic icon and then I get a screen full of colors and it freezes there until i power down.

I am unsure how to do this and sometimes it can be different. In the case of Dragon Age Origins. I ventured to a place on the map said it couldn’t load and then booted me back to the game intro screen where I couldn’t resume or load any games. Then upon exiting dragon age i noted all icons had reverted to some generic folded paper icon.

In another case, was playing star craft and some of the creatures just were the bubble that the graphic should be rendered around and then exiting the game I got that as well.

Some times it just crashes like i posted above, it can be something some what different each time.

Here is Inix below…I am unsure how to even trouble shoot this. Could possibly be my Hard drive too.

Hello

First off all i would suggest to upgrade the system, if not done:

sudo pacman -Syu

then there could be a problem with the UEFI. Upgrade it: MSI Global - The Leading Brand in High-end Gaming & Professional Creation

Could be possible, that this is the problem. Did you try an older/another kernel?

Also there is a possibility, that there are some glitches when running wayland with xorg extended. Try run gnome in full xorg enviroment without wayland.

No idea, if you need ACPI (disabling it on laptops could drain more the battery), but it seems there are problem with it. Try to disable it. Add acpi=off to the kernel parameter. (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_parameters#GRUB)

Thanks for the help megavolt

I update often. So it may be because of a kernal update.

I would prefer to keep up with newer kernels but I could drop back if it continues.

I am unsure how to switch this, I saw one example where some one attempted it and didn’t fix until the reimaged. Do you have tips for this?

Article I am refering too

As for the ACPI I still need to figure that out as well.

Many thanks for your help.

As i remember you can switch to full xorg mode at gdm (login screen) at the bottom right on the screen or right to the password input. There is no need to disable wayland at a config file.

I sadly don’t see that. My machine automatically logs into manjaro and then if i go back to a login screen I do not see that option.

Bit of an update here - just tried playing some sc2 and one game kept freezing up for seconds at a time then one game the screen just suddenly went black and there was a cursor available. Kindof looked like it may have been a vtty but I couldn’t tell. Is there a way to run that event dangers journal ctl after i restart the machine?
