I recently installed a Nvidia GeForce 1050 ti in a 2014 Dell Optiplex 7010 with an Intel i7 processor. The resolution with nouveau works great but blender 4.x won’t start. I installed the non free driver using mhwd and now x11 won’t start and the resolution is locked at 640 x 480. My monitor is an Asus VE278 which is a 27 in. Blender 4.1 starts but at this res is unusable. Please advise on how to fix this.

I tried both video-nvidia and video-nvidia-470 neither work right. video-nvidia is what is installed atm.

Also for some reason the output to my monitor when using HDMI doesn’t use the full monitor. It is like the display is in a box inside my screen. When I switch back to VGA Manjaro freezes on the loading screen now and it didn’t do that before I tried HDMI.
This isn’t graphics related but after posting I realized that it says that my i7 only has 1 core and two threads. I’m pretty sure that in fedora it registered as having four cores. Why would only one core register?

Where is fbdev=1
?
That is not a full output from inxi
.
(for example there is no GPU output)
But I am thinking you should now have a hybrid setup (that i7 has integrated gfx), but you have force installed only the nvidia driver.
You should start over by undoing this.
Something like
sudo mhwd -i pci video-linux
sudo mhwd -r pci video-nvidia
(reboot)
Check the mhwd availability again. You are looking for some sort of hybrid profile.
mhwd -l
That is not a full output from
inxi
.
That is all that inxi -Farz put out
Where is
fbdev=1
?
I don’t know. Where should it be?
But I am thinking you should now have a hybrid setup (that i7 has integrated gfx), but you have force installed only the nvidia driver.
Everything I read shows that hybrid setups are only for laptops. This is a desktop. Also my integrated Intel card is Intel HD 4000. This is the whole reason I bought the dedicated GPU. The integrated Intel card is not supported by Blender 4.x Blender 4 crashes on startup when using either the integrated GPU or the dedicated GPU on nouveau.
I reinstalled Manjaro. I’m hoping that dropping down to 390.xx will resolve the issue.
So it automatically boots into x11 now and blender works.
I have a new issue. System windows aren’t rendering any text. I can’t tell what’s what. cat /etc/profile.d/qt-theming.sh shows the following:
# To use QGnomePlaform with AdwaitaQt style, comment out the following keys:
# Available options: gtk2, gnome, kde, qt5ct, xcb
# Note: Don't use in combination with QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME="qt5ct"
# Available styles: HighContrastInverse, HighContrast, Adwaita-HighContrastInverse,
# Adwaita-HighContrast, Adwaita-Dark, Adwaita, kvantum-dark, kvantum, qt5ct-style,
# Windows, Fusion
# Note: Don't use in combination with QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
#export QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=""
Is this the file I need to edit and if so what settings do I enter?
This issue may deserve its own thread, assuming the original issue(s) have been resolved.
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME="qt5ct"
This might be an issue? Back up the file first, then try commenting that line out. If that doesn’t help, maybe instead change the 5 to a 6 (make sure that qt6ct
is installed first though: sudo pacman -Syu qt6ct
) … also worthy of note, neither package is installed on this system.
Thank you. I think that I’ve narrowed it down to an issue with pango. I’ve installed kde plasma and that works as far as rendering text goes but blender doesn’t render.
That graphic card will run with the latest nvidia drivers in Manjaro.i have a GeForce 1050 and it is using the 555.58.02 driver with no issues.
When I run anything other than 390.xx X11 won’t start and Wayland is only low res.
