Locked up after going to sleep

Hello,

I’m brand new to Arch. I’ve had an ongoing problem where my desktop won’t wake up after going to sleep. It won’t respond to ping from another computer either, therefore I can’t SSH in and revive or properly shutdown/reboot it. It requires that I force the MB to power down. I’ve had this problem spanning multiple desktops and OS’s. Since I just installed Manjaro two days ago and it occurred again for the first time with this OS, I thought I would start with the minds on this forum.

For years I’ve used Ubuntu w/ Unity or Gnome2 and Mint along with Cinnamon. I was on a Dell Precision T3500 w/ Mint for a number of years. Then last year I upgraded and built an AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 8 Core w/ 32GB ECC Ram on a ASUS ROC. I installed Mint again w/ Cinnamon (I know, but it’s been what I know and I like the Gnome2 UI). I thought that my issue had been the Dell MB since I had replaced the OS a number of times, upgraded HDs and it has ECC memory; it was just old and tired. I thought too perhaps a tired power supply. The problem followed me. Since I had issues with Cinnamon for years, even on the Dell, I thought perhaps a bug in the DM was following me as Cinnamon has had reported issues like mine. But this morning it occurred again, completely different OS and DM. The only thing that is the common denominator is the video card, a Radeon R7 260x/360.

So, it sounds like its been the video card all along but I don’t quite know how to troubleshoot it. I do know that I’m using the opensource default video drivers from the installation. I anticipate responses to be replace the video card. Before I fork out $$ I’d like to ensure I’ve not overlooked some free overlooked options. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello again…

Would still appreciate any insights into my issue…

Thanks again

Hi and welcome to the forum :wave:
Please read this thread on how to supply information so users can have some data to give advice.

@Hanzel

Thank you for your response

I can provide any log files as needed. Didn’t want to add to this initial post as it’s 1000’s of line.

Go into your Motherboard’s BIOS/UEFI and check and see which power saving states are active. Namely you don’t want the System going to Sleep…

Hibernation is ever worse if you a SSD due to increase in Wear and Tear.

There is neat function in the editor at he wheel button that adds a option to flip it open when needed : hide details

You use it this way:
