Lightdm fails, nvidia fails to initialize kernel module

It was just one kernel that failed to load. If I enter mhwd -li, and it shows me the installed nvidia-driver, I suppose that the output is correct.

suppose…

i’m out

so downgrade the following nvidia packages like you did with the kernel:
lib32-nvidia-utils-5.15.57-1
linux515-nvidia-5.15.57-1
nvidia-utils-5.15.57-1
opencl-nvidia-5.15.57-1
reboot and boot with the 5.15

Yes. I suppose - because I am no expert on this.

Thank you for your time and support!

Beside the obvious error below, the package linux515-nvidia515.57.1 is not availablr. I replaced it with …7, which is available.

I need to call it a night. Back in 10 hours or so.

I ended up uninstalling linux-kernel 519 and 510, booted 515 and downgraded the packages described above. I can log into gdm-GUI now.

This looks still a bit messy… can you please instruct which drivers I can remove (without destroying what we just accomplished)? Thanks.

so the issue was with the latest kernel or nvidia drivers, or both … you dont have to remove any drivers, you have installed the proper drivers:

i already told him that the 3070 needs the actual 5-series of the nvidia-drivers. but i think he wanted to learn the lesson on the hard-one.
just my2cents

but he had the latest nvidia, then we tried the 470 to see if he had still issues, which he had, then he installed back the latest, which he still has, but the downgraded version of them…

so it’s up to you. 470 was released a way before the 3070 reached the market. how should that match ? It can’t.

So I could probably switch back to lightdm?

yes you can switch if you want, shouldnt be a problem

Don’t confuse him, there’s no such a thing as nvidia driver version 5.15. There’s 515.57.
