LG gram 16 16Z90R and 17 17ZD90R - no sound

Continuing the discussion from New Manjaro user - Sound question:

LG gram 16 16Z90R and LG gram 17 17ZD90R have been patched by ALSA developers

[PATCH 6.11 173/558] ALSA: hda/realtek: Refactor and simplify Samsung Galaxy Book init - Greg Kroah-Hartman

6.11-stable review patch

Patch is included in kernels 6.11.10 and 6.12.1 available on Testing and Unstable branches and will probably be included in next Stable branch updates

I’ve been on Manjaro GNOME for a bit now on my gram. Dual boot with Windows. The speaker output has never worked on Linux. This has been a known issue with my laptop (LG gram 16Z90R) for a while, and I just dealt with it by having sound come out of another source.

According to this recent post, it has been patched, and for my model specifically

However even after updating, I got no sound. So I decided I would try reinstalling. I backed up my files, then did a clean install of the newest version of Manjaro GNOME yesterday.

The sound still doesn’t work. Maybe there’s another issue I am missing. I’d appreciate any help I could get.

It’s possible you might need to install sof-firmware. Try it, reboot and see if that helps.

It is already installed, it came with manjaro
