As a new or infrequent forum user, you are encouraged to take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:
The Update Announcements contain a Known Issues and Solutions section and should generally be checked before posting a request for support.
Output of the following command formatted according to forum requirements (see links above) is often useful (and this or similar will usually be asked for in Support threads):
inxi -zv8c0
Regards.
Snapshot? Are you using it in a Virtual machine?
I’m using BRFS. I use a snapshot to boot in, but after a reboot without any updates, the screen keeps blinking and the system never boots.
Can you change to another tty (ctrl+alt+F3)? If so get the journal:
journalctl -p3 -b
Also, try to update grub before restarting the system:
sudo mkinitcpio -P
sudo update-grub
[edit] If you’re using grub, of course…
I installed a new Manjaro Xfce system with open source drivers and after updates the same thing happened. Strange!
Which exact version of Manjaro did you install? Pushed updated ISOs which includes the current update. Maybe try to boot these.
manjaro xfce 25.0.7-250812
After installing kernel 6.6 LTS and updating grub, when restarting grub in advanced options it only allows you to choose 6.12 LTS.

I will do now a simple system update from the XFCE 25.0.7 ISO in a VM. You can try to boot one of the 25.0.8 ISOs on your system, to see if you get a graphical interface.
I boot one of the 25.0.8 ISOs (Full) and I get the problem.
OK, so the 25.0.8 ISO is unbootable for your system and as soon as you update from 25.0.7 to the 25.0.8 you get your system also unbootable.
Now we have to figure out what the regression might be.
First provide the output of inxi -zv8c0
so we know with which hardware we are dealing with.
You can try to use the 25.1.x series of Mesa via this repo. Simply place it on top of [extra]
in your /etc/pacman.conf
file and use sudo pacman -Syuu
to downgrade.
[mesa-251]
SigLevel = PackageRequired
Server = https://download.manjaro.org/pkgs/mesa
You can also reinstall 25.0.7 add the mesa repo and upgrade to see if that change makes your system bootable again. If you already have 25.0.8 update applied you can go to the bootloader by pressing ESC
key and select the bootloader entry. Press CTRL+E
for edit and search for the words quiet
and splash
. Delete those and add 3
to the line. Then execute CTRL+x
to start your session. You will land in a text console TTY. Login with your user.
Edit the /etc/pacman.conf
with nano: sudo nano /etc/pacman.conf
. Perform the downgrade and reboot.
Sending the output of inxi -zv8c0 -

will give you a clue which driver profiles are installed. But it seems to be an Intel laptop with i915 driver in modesetting for your Intel HD Graphics 5500 plus using the nouveau drivers for your NVIDIA GM108M [GeForce 930M]. Downgrade mesa and see if that solves your issue.
I couldn’t downgrade (I followed the procedures, but…) and I lost the system because the snapshot (Brfs) is also having problems. Maybe I’ll install the system again, but which version (I apologize if I’m being too basic).
If the following repo was added to your pacman.conf it should be able to use the older mesa still.
[mesa-251]
SigLevel = PackageRequired
Server = https://download.manjaro.org/pkgs/mesa
pacman -Q mesa
will give you the version you currently have installed. sudo pacman -Syyuu
will perform a downgrade. You can still try to reinstall 25.0.7, apply the mesa-251
repo and do then a system upgrade.
Thank you!
So this means the mesa update was the culprit on your system. After using 25.1.x series your system works normal again?
I will install the system again and make the suggested changes.
