Keyboard and Touchpad do not work on Honor MagicBook Pro 16 2026

I have this computer, keyboard and touchpad both can’t work. 1. Only volume/screenshot hotkeys work from internal keyboard. 2. Normal keys produce no events in evtest on event2 (AT Translated Set 2 keyboard). 2. Touchpad is completely missing from /proc/bus/input/devices and dmesg.

Note: this is not only from the live ISO. I have already installed Manjaro on the internal SSD, and the internal keyboard and touchpad also do not work in the installed system. I can only use an external USB keyboard and mouse.

Update: with i8042.dumbkbd=1 initcall_blacklist=sysfb_init added to the kernel cmdline, the internal keyboard now works. However, two issues remain:

  1. The touchpad is still not detected in /proc/bus/input/devices.
  2. The power button does not respond. It appears as a device (PNP0C0C in /proc/bus/input/devices at event1), but pressing it generates no events in evtest and no ACPI events in the kernel log.

External USB keyboard and mouse continue to work normally.

Hardware input issues can be pretty alarming when both the keyboard and touchpad stop working at the same time, so it’s great to see a confirmed fix. Hopefully this helps others get back up and running much faster.

Any chance you have set this up with dual boot with Windows? You could get the hardware identifier from windows device manager so we know exactly what hardware you’re dealing with. But I suspect there probably isn’t any kernel support for it at all.

This is concerning - as it indicates a proprietary component that often requires proprietary drivers to work even in Windows.

Also the following suggests a virtual device. Was Windows booted natively when you obtained this information or was it run in a virtual machine?

Something else you could try which may have quicker results, is trying the new linux 7.1 kernel which may include drivers for this hardware. You can install it within Manjaro from the Manjaro Settings Manager/Kernel options. Once installed, power off the system completely, then power on and it should boot the new kernel. If it fails and doesn’t work, reboot again and hold shift at boot time to display the grub menu and you can then select the option to use the kernel you currently have installed.

If you successfully boot with the new kernel, run inxi -zv8 again and see if it has detected the touchpad.

Yes, for such uncommon and new hardware newer kernels often have better drivers…
New Kernel/s can be installed from manjaro settings manager, please avoid kernels that are tagged experimental.

But I still don’t have much hope for “Honor” laptop, don’t seem like a company that’d pay attention to open source drivers.
OP’s details suggest it’s a 2026 model, I wonder what made them choose honor hardware, if they are on linux.
