KDE panel crashes when click on wifi

Hey, as the title says my KDE crashes when I open wifi from the panel or when I connect to different wifi sometimes the panel crashes sometimes the whole plasmashell crashes any fix for this?
i read it could be a driver problem but I have AMD and I choose free drivers when I install manjaro for the first time

Is it crashing, or just hanging for a while? Does it restart after a few minutes?

I had this earlier tonight having clicked the wrong network (list kept shuffling) and then immediately tried clicking on the correct one. Panel inaccessible for 3 or 4 minutes then restored by itself; all fine after that.

Does it crash only the panel or the whole plasmashell (everything becomes black, there is no wallpaper)?
Ah, never mind. I just noticed you already wrote that the plasmashell also crashes sometimes.

Close plasmashell in sysguard and open it in terminal. If it crashes, see what is the output and post it here.

so any fix ?

also i keep getting the (Desktop effects have been suspended by another application.
You can resume using the ‘Alt+Shift+F12’ shortcut. ) idk why

Yeah, this is annoying. Some config is conflicting with kwin but it’s not clear which one. For me it happens when I boot with two monitors. Everything is OK with single monitor. I suspect that latte-dock is causing it. I should probably test it by disabling latte at start and see if the issue still appears.

Anyway, countless any other elements may cause this. Reverting to default configs usually fixes.

Fix to what? We still don’t know what is happening. We don’t have this issue on our machines. More info is needed, hence my request for a terminal output, in hope it will reveal the cause or at least point in the right direction.

As said above, you could revert to defaults so delete all panels and create new ones. See if that fixes your problem. Also, the issue could be triggered by a desktop theme, so revert to breeze or manjaro’s default one for a time being.

here is my main problem, I haven’t touched anything at all i installed manjaro and these problems appeared no configs no nothing no latte or any themes BUT i do have 2 monitors so it could be the case for the alt+ctrl+f12 problem.
also i sometimes notice very high usage of the CPU the plasmashell take all of my CPU and that right after i boot up so tbh idk what cause all of that
ngl, at this point im thinking of leaving KDE

Check if baloo is running. Rub htop and see which process is taking the CPU. Also watch IO with iotop.

i just disabled baloo :+1:

And so? Did it get better?

not at all, i was gonna post rn about if i open chrome with 1/2 tabs my CPU and ram go crazy like my CPU go all way to 100% of usage and my 8gb of ram get fully loaded as well

Did you install the OS on HDD? Accessing slow HDD somehow increases CPU usage from my experience - ironically.

You can check disk activity with iotop. If you have any plugins installed in chrome, uninstall them all, restart chrome and test it.

How about providing some system info the good people here can work with? This might reveal a possible issue with your setup, … e.g.:

inxi --full --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host

Also: How to provide good information

yup i have HDD :frowning:

Check out swappiness. It’s possible it’s set to 60, so it will try to put files into SWAP even if plenty of RAM is still available. This has two effect:

  • HDD will work like crazy and will slow everything, almost to a freeze
  • CPU will start peaking 100% for unknown reasons and stay that way till swap files are copied

With HDD it can take even 10 minutes or more, so it’s like instant freeze and browsers are usually the trigger. Other apps will cause this will be high RAM intensive programs like Thunderbird, compiling packages, etc.

You need to change swappiness value to 10 or less and then be careful not to have too many tabs and sites eating RAM (with multimedia content or heavy scripts).

HDD based systems are high ineffective and meant for very lightweight work.

This happens to me even after 1yr. on an SSD, have anyone of you guys found a fix?
