Intel-ivsc-firmware - Webcam not recognised on Samsung Galaxy Book 3

Can you tell me what you did?

I tried installing it from the script, but it failed with:

# Install package from the AUR/repos: intel-ivsc-firmware

         context: exit status 128

I also tried the yay commands, but they also failed:

yay -S intel-ivsc-firmware

Any suggestions?

I suggest opening a new thread regarding this. The one you necro-bumped, which isn’t allowed, it a year old already!

When you do so, please also provide the info:

@gerep

I have moved your post to its own dedicated topic to attract wider attention to it. In the meantime, please help others to help you by providing an better description of your issue using many more words.

In this case, the following command might help; let the command finish completely (in might take a minute):

pamac upgrade -a --force-refresh --dry-run

and then if that completes without error:

pamac upgrade -a --force-refresh

After successful completion you might try again to build the package:

pamac build intel-ivsc-firmware

I hope this helps.

PS: Feel free to change the thread title, if needed.

Regards.

My bad, could’ve moved it myself, thanks @soundofthunder!

@gerep, I’ve got a sneaky suspicion your system is out-of-date.

I think you need to update your mirrors:

sudo pacman-mirrors --fasttrack 5

Then update your system:

pamac upgrade

Followed by rebooting and trying the installation again:

pamac build intel-ivsc-firmware

And seeing if it works.

Note that this might have many .pacnew files as a side-effect. To deal with those, see:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Pacman/Pacnew_and_Pacsave#.pacnew

I’m sorry, but I just noticed you created this new post while I was making this one

Should we continue there or here?

I’ll try the update commands you suggested.

The embedded camera is not working anywhere.

I tried using Cheese and other meeting applications and browsers, and all say, “Camera not found”.

I’m sorry if this is too much information.

inxi -zv8

When the camera is no found - then driver is missing.

I read somewhere that certain Intel camera boards has poor support in the Linux kernel (IPU type) and we have had a number of related issues over time.

I ran the upgrade and rebooted before running the build command.

This is a bug in pamac CLI - it has been known for some time

When combining AUR and Manjaro - especially for such lowlevel as kernel modules - it is mandatory change branch to either unstable or testing branch.

sudo pacman-mirrors --api --set-branch unstable
sudo pacman -Syu git base-devel --needed
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/intel-ivsc-firmware
cd intel-ivsc-firmware
makepkg -is

I’ve obviously solved that problem for you now.

And, did you? This post isn’t very clear.

Try again; but, please provide the full output of the completed command:

pamac upgrade -a --force-refresh

Additional:

I notice the AUR package you are trying to install hasn’t been updated since 2022, and there a comment seems to suggest it needs to be updated for compatibility reasons.

That link for the repository does not exist anymore.

Yet, if you try with the correct URL, there it is; the page, at least.

You might check your mirrors:

I see several are currently offline.

Try sorting your mirrors, before attempting the build again:

sudo pacman-mirrors --continent
pamac build intel-ivsc-firmware

It still fails the same way:

fatal: unable to connect to aur.archlinux.org:
aur.archlinux.org[0: 95.216.144.15]: errno=No route to host
aur.archlinux.org[1: 2a01:4f9:c010:50::1]: errno=Network is unreachable

I have updated the mirrors. I’m in Brazil, and they are not offline.

Let’s not spend more time on this.

I appreciate the patience and attention, but it looks like I’ll have to wait a while.

All I can say, after having looked at it and tried:

intel-ivsc-firmware
is needed by (depends on):

intel-ipu6-dkms-git

and both of these AUR packages did build and install flawlessly
when I built them using yay instead of pamac.

I did it in this order - the wrong way around …:

yay -S intel-ivsc-firmware
yay -S intel-ipu6-dkms-git

No problems here - but:

the camera is nowhere to be seen (is not detected at all)

The system does not see it - and that won’t change by installing these two packages. :man_shrugging:

To the extent they may be useful for the OP (or others) I’ll post these links I’ve found which (combined) seem to lead to a successful outcome:

Given the current status of the maintainer and repository (as mentioned above) these links may lead to the only workaround possible.

Regards.
