After updating, Inkscape has become extremely crashy. Just copy/pasting elements easily reproduces this problem.
Anything in logs?
- Open Inkscape
- Draw a square
- Select it and do a CTRL + X
- Do CTRL + V
- Crash

Inkscape is always crashing whenever one tries to copy/paste and sometimes even moving elements in the canvas.
It works fine for me, but there is a slight delay when pressing Ctrl-C before it gets responsive again and data can be pasted. Might be then that your copy crashes.
It seems from the clipboard content that it produces XML data while copying objects. Might be something about converting “whatever it handles on the canvas” to XML and shoving it onto the clipboard that causes the delay.
I’m guessing the developers will hear about it, if it’s a wide spread issue.
It could of course also be something strange going on with your machine.
I get a crash with inkscape if I have python-webencodings
and python-tinycss2
installed, and no crash if I remove them. I don’t (yet) know if not having them causes any other problems. Since I’m not currently needing inkscape I’ve not investigated.
Just tested it with the latest update of OS and applications on KDE Plasma 6.3.x
No issues at all. works as expected.

changed the topic, but this is something caused after the upgrade since it didn’t happen before…
Thank you for editing the topic title. It is no longer hidden.
Tracked by Inkscape https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape/-/issues/5528
FYI: Plasma 6.3.3 (running on Archlinux) I don’t get the crash.
I am unable to duplicate this, with either CTRL + C or CTRL + X. Not even doing CTRL +V immediately after doing CTRL + C or X
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.11.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.17-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 4 × Intel® Pentium® CPU N3540 @ 2.16GHz
Memory: 7.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Intel® HD Graphics

Product Name: W54_W94_W955TU,-T,-C
Does it crash on X11 or wayland session?
It happens on Wayland, the crash occurs for me both with Inkscape 1.4 (native) and Inkscape 1.3.2 (AppImage).
No crash on Inkscape 1.4 (e7c3feb100, 2024-10-09) X11
And no crash on Rpi5 with the same version.

Just to add another voice to this cacophony;
→ Plasma 6.3.2 on Wayland, Kernel 6.12.17-1, AMD RX-580 graphic, Breath, Inkscape 1.4 (e7c3feb100, 2024-10-09) native.
I cannot reproduce the crash.
Please provide system information previously requested.
System Information
Output of this command (formatted according to forum requirements) may be useful for those wishing to help:
inxi --filter --verbosity=8
or the short form:
inxi -zv8
Privacy: Those with privacy concerns, note that when -z
, or --filter
is used, all personally identifiable information is filtered out from the resulting inxi
output.
As mentioned above, there is an open inkscape issue tracking this, with reports of several people able to reproduce a crash. There is perhaps little to gain in collecting Manjaro-specific info here; if people have anything to add maybe add it to the inkscape issue.
