I can't run GZDoom Properly

Tried running GZDoom from terminal after I followed the install instructions and I am getting this:

M_LoadDefaults: Load system defaults.

(process:5459): Gtk-WARNING **: 19:17:53.281: Locale not supported by C library.
	Using the fallback 'C' locale.
Gtk-Message: 19:17:53.281: Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
Gtk-Message: 19:17:53.281: Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
Gtk-Message: 19:17:53.281: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Gtk-Message: 19:17:53.281: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"

(gzdoom:5459): dbind-WARNING **: 19:17:53.289: Couldn't connect to accessibility bus: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-pkBOeeZzSH: No such file or directory

GZDoom opens with a fatal error and I cannot see anything- what am I doing wrong?

I just installed it from Pamac, as a Flatpak (enable it in Pamac Settings, restart Pamac, search GZDoom), and it works:

This error is expected as I don’t own any commercial files and didn’t add anything where it belongs to run Doom games (as explained in the Flatpak description in Pamac).

Start over explain how you installed it, also you tagged your thread with Snap/Flatpak. It is one or the other, can’t be both at same time. Also always good to give your system info as explained here How to provide good information but first things first… give proper info.

I did the same method, but when I open GZDoom, the text is just a bunch of squares.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Please read this:
    How to provide good information
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…
  2. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.
  3. Tell us exactly how you installed gzdoom (step by step) because:

    it works flawlessly here…

:+1:

P.S. If you enter a bit more details in your profile, we can also see which Desktop Environment you’re using, which CPU/GPU or Kernel, … you have without typing it every time

Mmhh… try to install it from the AUR, i always did this way and never had problems.

Sorry about not providing proper info, please let me know if I missed anything and I have also updated my profile.

In regards to GZDoom, installed the GZDoom Snap through Pamac. For me, when I launch GZDoom, the text on the menu that listed above (the one with the fatal error), all of the text in that box shows up as a bunch of squares and I can’t read it.

  • You never responded to:

  • Kernel 5.9 is EOL so please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Time Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least.

I will attempt to do that and I will post what happens. Also, I posted above the steps (there weren’t many as I installed the GZDoom Snap through Pamac).

Remove that and:

So installing both 5.4 and 5.10 did the trick and I tried both of them and GZDoom works fine now. I really appreciate the assistance.
