I want to try the Realtek drivers using this guide

but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong

Thank you so much for your time and effort, have a wonderful day/night!

Hullo,

Where did you get this number ?

It sorta does not matter because there is not a single audio driver in mhwd, and the only realtek (rt) stub is a very old network driver.

There is no guide there.

I would suggest if you need help with something you start with some system information.

And what exactly are you trying to achieve?
What drivers do you think you need? Why? Does your sound not work?

Thank you so much for responding. Long story short I don’t have audio in the back panel, only in the front panel. Using KDE edge branch, here is the output:

inxi -Farz  ✔

OP created a topic yesterday - Back panel no audio

Yeah, there was to solve the problem and this one to change driver… but the question had to be answered… I’m in a bind here…
Often we get asked to open a new thread when making something different… like… installing a different driver.

Just out of curiosity, I have seen “Edge” & “Edgelord” branches mentioned in this forum recently (I think all mentions were by this topic’s OP), but I have no idea what they are. Manjaro has 3 branches: Unstable, Testing & Stable; a quick websearch didn’t find any reference to Plasma Edge (apart from a brand of toy truck).

Could you please define what Edge/Edgelord is, as you seem to be the only member on this forum using those terms?

I read Manjaro devs will rename the unstable branch as the edge branch… so I didn’t check if the change was already made

inxi shows snd_hda_intel driver is already in use

  Device-1: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Raven/Raven2/Fenghuang HDMI/DP
    Audio driver: snd_hda_intel

Device-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 17h/19h HD Audio
vendor: Biostar Microtech Intl Corp driver: snd_hda_intel

Driver snd_hda_intel is the standard Linux driver for onboard audio devices that comply with Intel HDA audio standard and works for most audio codecs made by Realtek, including the Realtek ALC897 on this motherboard

Often we get asked to open a new thread

I did not ask you to open another thread and Forum rules do not allow cross-posting

I have a partial draft response to your other topic that may be posted later today,
but It is 7:00 am here and I am only on my first cup of breakfast

Sounds like a proprietary browser thing

Well, the situation is I thought my back panel audio was defective because there was no audio in Linux or Windows so I didn’t bother troubleshooting here but today (uninstalling the Realtek drivers in windows) restored the audio in the back panel so I thought I could do something in Linux. So here we are.

I’m sure they will make an official announcement when/if they decide to proceed with the change, especially as changing branch names will most likely require changes to Manjaro users’ system configurations to reflect the change (such as /etc/pacman.conf).

In the meantime, until any name change is made by the Manjaro team, you should stick to using the official branch names (Unstable, Testing, Stable).

edge and unstable are interchangeable expression for the same thing.

unstable, testing and stable is name of the repos

the reason for using the edge expression in some contexts is the reference to Arch stable branch.

Okay - I know that now. I must admit that I had muted the thread asking for feedback/suggestions on possible name changes, expecting that a separate announcement would be made when/if implemented.
