Hello guys, question about AUR kernel package

Hello I’m new to Linux, but I’m trying to study and understand, everyday I learn something new.

I’m using Ryzen 5 3400g CPU with no graphics card.
MOBO: Asus b450M-gaming/br
8Gb RAM 2666mhz

I have been running in some issues now and then(with USB camera and external HD), but usually its working well.

Is it safe to install this kernel from AUR for my setup??
(can’t post the link, sorry, its in aur archlinux org the name is linux-amd-raven)

I like to play games too, and hope it will give me a performance boost, and maybe make some issues go away, but I’m really not sure because of lack of knowledge.

I use that kernel … just remember it isnt handled by mhwd-kernel (or manjaro-settings-manager) and it needs to be rebuilt for things like modules.
Also note that kernel is locked at 5.4 … you can get the more recent kernel (5.8) using linux-raven-latest.

Looks like its all pretty much made in the PKGBUILD … so you would need to translate that somehow

I know very little in programming matters, I thought it would be just a matter of using the same kernel file, like just put the file somewhere and then alter the grub configurations.

Also another question, the initrd file also needs to be related to the kernel? This is where the headers come in? like the kernel is somehow changed for every system it’s used?

Sorry if I’m rambling its just that I really don’t understand how stuff works, if someone could direct a good reading in the subject.

Ok, my usb wifi card won’t work with this kernel, I just made the experiment to change to Manjaro kernel(5.8) and it works fine.

Can someone point me in the direction of fixing the issue? I can follow instructions and then I can post the results here.

So thats not the issue.

Would it be possible for you to generate the same (or just inxi -Nazy) from the ‘non-working’ Raven ?

It looks like its not recognizing that 8188EU with that kernel.
(hm … I vaguely remember this model … maybe there is some extra somewhere I cant find…)

But … an easy route without dissecting all of that might be to use one of the AUR dkms packages.
ex: 8188eu-dkms might work or 8188eu-dkms-git or 8188eu-aircrack-dkms-git

This is known to be a fidgety series … but it should be doable, as shown by it working otherwise.

Turns out I didn’t have any kernel headers installed hahaha
could this be the culprit of the issue?
Now I installed all the headers I could, need a reboot for the driver?

Hello, I have another question when I ran this command journalctl -b -p err this shows up, is it an error, can I fix it? The Iommu part has to do with virtualization right, if I can use kvm well means its not an error?

It probably doesnt matter.
But I may suggest iommu=pt as a boot param.

message still appears after setting this parameter, maybe I try setting up a kvm machine and if it all works great I can just ignore this message? Iommu is for virtual machines right?

All I did to install the kernel was to add to my pacman.conf the repository and used the GUI install thing and added it, did I do something wrong?
