Graphics Card Error: 'fifo:fault[VIRT_READ]' on channel 2[Xorg]

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an issue with my graphics card and hoping someone can help me troubleshoot it. Recently, my system has been crashing and the following error message appears in my system logs:

Apr 15 08:24:22 bleh kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: fault 00 [VIRT_READ] at 0000000013800000 engine 40 [gr] client 00 [GPC2/T1_0] reason 00 [PDE] on channel 2 [017f471000 Xorg[495]]

Apr 15 08:24:22 bleh kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: fifo: engine 0: scheduled for recovery
Apr 15 08:24:22 bleh kernel: nouveau 0000:01:00.0: Xorg[495]: channel 2 killed!

I believe this error message is related to my graphics card, which is a NVIDIA TU116 [GeForce GTX 1660]. I am currently running,
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Kernel Version: 6.1.23-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 7.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NV168
Manufacturer: MSI
Product Name: MS-7917
System Version: 1.0

I’m uncertain on where to begin to investigate this issue further. The error occurred while I was using Krita with my WACOM tablet. But that is about all I can think of that would be relevant.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can further troubleshoot this issue? I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks!

can you boot on kernel 5.15 LTS ?
also can you report

As I was just browsing the forum right before you replied something strange happened. A small screen almost like a magnifier appeared in the bottom right corner of my monitor, and it magnified a random area of the forum page I was on. Shortly after firefox became unresponsive, and so did literally everything else except when I opened a terminal with a keyboard shortcut. Firefox after maybe 30 seconds closed itself, but I still couldn’t click on anything. I then opened firefox with a terminal command and all of a sudden everything started working like normal again. Here is (hopefully) the relevant system logs right before and as it was happening.

its ok , you can if you want add kernel linux 6.2

awesome, thanks a bunch.

if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly was the issue in the first place? was it really all because i didn’t have the proprietary drivers installed? i assume now i wait and watch to see if it happens again, or is there a way to check the system logs to see?

this coming from Intel GPU , since linux 6.x
