GPD Win 2 randomly boots to black screen on Kernels newer than 5.4

Hello,

I am trying to utilize Linux Kernel 5.15 on my GPD Win 2 running Manjaro Stable because of the improved game performance (I’ve gotten a noticeable fps increase in games like Metal Gear Rising), but 3 out 4 times when booting into the computer with linux kernel 5.15, it either freezes on the /dev/sda2 screen or on a black screen. When it does boot, it either works great, or it will boot into desktop only to not detect the wifi card, forcing me to restart and try again. Having to force shutdown the device and hope it will boot correctly isn’t healthy for the computer. None of these happen on kernel 5.4. I have also tried 5.10 and 5.18 to similar issues. I have tried other distros and all have similar issues, so it seems to be related to the kernel. I have had this issue for months when testing newer kernels and I have been hoping it would be fixed in some sort of patch but that has not happened yet. Since it does boot correctly sometimes, there may be some sort of tweaking on my end to make it boot correctly everytime. Any suggestions on what the issue might be?

Also Im not sure if this influenced the results for this particular test, but I booted into the computer with 5.4, then restarted and went to grub and booted into 5.15. In past tests I still encounter black screen boots this way, but I thought I should share that additional bit of info if it could influence the terminal results.

noticed you using wayland, does the same black screen happens also on x11?

Yeah, the black screen issue happens with xorg/x11 too.

so when the black screen happens and you have to reboot, post logs from the black screen boot:
journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --no-pager

Here are the results when I get a black screen:

journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --no-pager                     ✔

first check this:

did you edited your grub?
there is something susspicious: rw

Doubt it. There was an attempt a while ago to fix it via editing the grub boot options but that didn’t work and changed it back, I also uninstalled 5.15 and eventually reinstalled 5.15 since then. I have not noticed a change in its behavior.

but there is some strange parameter in grub: rw - this looks strange to me… and reinstalling kernel, will not fix the parameter… run this:
cat /etc/default/grub

interesting, it looks ok, there is no rw there…
open this file:
sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
and edit the modules section to look like this:
MODULES=(i915)
then press ctrl+x to save it
and run this:
sudo mkinitcpio -P
now run this:
sudo systemctl edit gdm
edit the service to:

[Service]
ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 1

save the file, reboot and test

Didn’t work unfortunately

so go to etc/default/grub and add to this line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
this parameter:
random.trust_cpu=on
it should look like this:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet resume=UUID=550c15ed-2b7b-44ed-bfd0-b50697230d51 udev.log_priority=3 random.trust_cpu=on"

save the file, run this:
sudo update-grub
reboot and test

Didn’t work either

so remove the parameter and also remove this parameter: quiet
run again:
sudo update-grub
without quiet it will show logs, so check where it is stuck

The forum won’t let me attach photos or links, so on boot it freezes at:
