So, in that case I would do a reinstall and install the packages one after the other. Perhaps even reboot in between. Sound good?
if the freezes were related only to running videos you could try the 470 version of nvidia, but audio is also affected, so probably a kernel thing …
that really doesnt sound that good to me, to much of work … you could try downgrading the kernel+nvidia …post output from:
ls -hl /var/cache/pacman/pkg | grep linux | grep nvidia
I already tried the 470xx version. I had only a blackscreen then, and had to revert via a chroot.
I have never downgraded a kernel before. Would have thought that would make only more problems.
But we can try no problem. You probably mean stay in 5.15 but a lower version in that right.
ls -hl /var/cache/pacman/pkg | grep linux | grep nvidia

well theres nothing to downgrade to, since its a fresh install, the packages that are downloaded are the latest …
since you are on btrfs, didnt you created a snapshot/timeshift before updating ?
not manually, but I’ll take a look
I have however, now that you mention it, a complete backup of my system before the first reinstall.
I’ll take a look in that cache as well.
But not from the cache. That’s in its own subvolume unfortunately
A kernel from a 64-bit Laptop should work as well right?
I’ll take a look
well if you have a backup, you can restore the snapshot, and then dont update the following:
linux515-nvidia
nvidia-utils
lib32-nvidia-utils
linux515
That would be the complete last resort, yes.

Oh, problem. The Laptop does not have an Nvidia card and therefore no drivers
i have no idea if manjaro provides older packages for download…
so you found them… so thats a problem, you would not be able to downgrade since you have only this:
linux515-5.15.60
so if you have the backup from before installing the updates, use it, and then dont upgrade the packages mentioned above …
I’ll take a short look which versions are installed in the backup, but perhaps that is indeed the only way.
Any idea, on wether or not, or when, I’ll be able to do a new install then. I do want to try KDE
you can do again a fresh install from the same iso:
then take a backup of it, and run update without the packages, to see if it was really because of them …
That is a very good idea thx.
And I will try that before the backup
yes do a fresh install again, then back it up, and run update from add/remove software with the blacklisted:
linux515-nvidia
nvidia-utils
lib32-nvidia-utils
linux515
Alright, we’ll see then how it goes. Till tomorrow probably XD And already thanks for the help until now, btw.
Is an update of those packages forbidden now, or are they just not checked. In other words: If I install something that depends on newer versions of these packages, what will happen?
