Repo updates seem complete

Here again Failed to synchronize AUR database: this might normally overcome that – alas, apparently not in this case..

pamac update --aur --force-refresh

There’s nothing further I can think of at this time that might help.

There is a more manual approach to rebuilding the database, though, I can’t recall the command-line as I type. Others may be able to shed some more light. @Aragorn

I’ll chime in again if I find anything useful.

Regards.

I did this without success. See my post above.

I found this. Could you recommend that? Or install yay? Or better to make a fresh install?

sudo pacman -Rsn pamac-gtk pamac-cli libpamac
sudo rm -r /var/tmp/pamac
sudo pacman -S pamac-gtk pamac-cli libpamac

The pamac-gtk package is the appropriate GTK4 version of Pamac-Manager for GNOME. It should already be installed (pamac-gtk3 was sometimes suggested for KDE in the past, but no longer).

Some prefer yay. I use it myself sometimes.

I don’t believe the choice of package manager is the problem here. :eyes:

More likely your system was in an unsupported / unmaintained state when you updated – in those cases there can be unpredictable consequences.

With many AUR packages in the mix, that can also be a complication:

If that’s an option for you, then it’s certainly the fastest way back to a working machine.

Should you decide to do that – and presuming you will still install GNOME – I’ll add some useful links in a moment:

1. It’s preferable to install using the latest available ISO. The ISOs on the “Download” page are still the old ISOs, but you can download the currently recommended Stable ISO from:

2. Also recommended – Create a Ventoy USB (A new bootable USB solution)

  • If the system doesn’t support UEFI, look for the BIOS/MBR instructions in the guide.

3. Important – Read through the Stable Update Announcement thread – particularly the Known Issues and Solutions section – before installing:

4. A final note – Manjaro now defaults to the btrfs filesystem:

You might prefer to still use the ext4 filesystem, in which case you must pay careful attention during install, and make sure to manually select ext4. Likewise with your preferred swap.

That should be it.

Regards.

Thank you very much for your support and your last statements! I will make a fresh install now with the linked source!

All these files cannot be unpacked by 7-zip without errors. The official ones are ok.

GitHub has a file size limitation. One needs to download the files with the .iso.zip and the .iso.z01 and the .iso.z02 extensions, into the same directory before extracting them – they should extract and merge to form the .iso file.

sudo pacman -S 7zip

But try here instead.

These link to the uncompressed ISO. :eyes:
In fact, this is the better choice.

Download the checksum file as well (.sha256) to verify it.

Thank you! I got it …

Use the other ISO (just linked) instead (I copied the wrong link earlier).

  • The new link is for the Stable branch ISO: p-812260-full-9
  • The development ISOs are for the Unstable branch - you probably don’t want those

There is linked to both versions. I will take stable one, the Anh-Linh 25.1-pre1 (2025-12-08) - right?

Try refreshing the page.

Yes, that one.

Everything works fine now. Thank you again!

One more comment on this ticket. It applies in the context of this package from AUR: qt5-webengine

The only unusual event prior to this “accident” described here was the update of this package, which took many, many hours. Today, I suspect (!) that this is related.

Yesterday, I performed the update in two steps on my notebook. Every step via TTY. First I did

pacman -Syu

I testet it first and made a reboot. Everything was fine. Then I made the AUR update with this package.

After it took 6 hours, it was midnight. This morning it was finished. I was nervous, but it worked. May be I had luck with using TTY and separate steps? This behaviour stays disastrous. I’ll take a look at why it’s on my notebook in the first place. At first glance, it’s only because of ClipGrab.
