Failed to create partition

Hello

This topic follows on from a previous one which I posted:

My current configuration is as follows:
sda1: 8 GiB, Windows page file
sda2: Windows user folders (essentially Windows’ version of /home)

sdd1: 100 MiB EFI partition, automatically created by Windows
sdd2: 16 MiB Microsoft reserved partition, automatically created by Windows
sdd3: Windows 10 Pro installation
sdd4: 513 MiB partition, automatically created by Windows (for recovery?)

I used this guide for reference:

I partition my drives thusly:
sdb1: /boot
sdb2: / (root)

sdc1: 8 GiB swap
sdc2: /home

My problem occurs after the Summary screen, during the actual partitioning process:

How do I solve this problem?

Thank you

It seems like you are having disk errors.

Are you installing in BIOS mode? Because the guide is targeted EFI system - not bios systems.

or you can create partitions with gparted before install

but efi exists as sdd1 , win and manjaro use the same partition

@linux-aarhus why create in tuto this partition if window is installed ?

with USB iso manjaro
open a terminal and a browser on this topic
and returns

inxi -Fza
sudo parted -l
sudo efibootmgr -v
test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo efi || echo bios

@linux-aarhus It’s a UEFI based system running in UEFI mode.

@papajoke Thank you for pointing that out. I shall remove it.

missing flag boot & esp

boot on USB iso manjaro
launch gparted and add flag boot & esp to sdb1 ( fat32 )

To avoid issues with windows updates - also it is necessary if using encrypted Manjaro and/or the Windows is encrypted too.

Ok. I think there is a bug in calamares as we can see the same error, for example here: sfdisk incompatibility in version 2.26 · Issue #39 · kusnier/vagrant-persistent-storage · GitHub

To bypass the error, I suppose the best option is to create the partition in sdc before the installation begins. Also I recommend to change the partition type to gpt.

Well, Pamac took hours to check and clone the files for GParted from AUR, and failed at the end. Target not found: pkgconf

I was trying to add the flag suggested by @stephane seeing as that flag doesn’t appear to be available in Calemares or KDE Partition Manager.

gparted is installed
if not, gparted is in manjaro repos and we can run pacman-mirrors before

The weird thing is, even after updating the mirror list, GParted did not appear in the official repos, but did appear in the AUR, and yet, now it appears in the official repos.

And on the live USB, it is still not already installed, so I have now installed it again from the official repo in a fraction of the time.

The other weird thing is, according to GParted, sdb1 already has the boot and esp flags set.

Edit:
@stephane After adding those flags and proceeding with installation again, an identical error occurs.

because your are mixing disks with MBR & GPT
you are installing sdb in GPT , and ask MBR for sdc

Ah, thank you so much. I had completely missed that.

Thank you for all your help. Manjaro is now installed and working and Windows is nicely okay with (igonrant to?) that.
